Default The Only Thing That Would Make the Show Suck...

would be if Captain Stottlemeyer left.

Disher could leave and the show would still be good. Sharona left and the show's still good. But if Stottlemeyer left, I believe it would get really bad. I'm sure it would be a good show, but not great, like it is now.

The relationship between Monk and the Captain is the best part of the show. And to picture a show without the Captain is upsetting.

Don't worry. Ted Levine hasn't mentioned leaving. It's just a thought I had.

I had the same thought about Disher last night. Not only would I not miss him, each time he has more than a few lines I find him a little annoying.

I agree about Stottlemeyer as well. He's an essential part of the show. I'm glad that they've let his character evolve over the years, rather than having him always be just the gruff captain. He's learned a lot about compassion from Monk, and that's made him a better person. It probably even saved his marriage. I can't imagine the show without him.

I guess if he left it would be the end of the show...

Anyway, the worst thing I could imagine would be Sharona coming back...

I think that's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that! Ususally its the other way around!

I actually love Randy Disher. I think he's hilarious (not to mention cute!), and he does say pretty stupid things and has these crazy ideas, but it definitely adds something to the show.

I did really miss Leland (Stottlemeyer) in the "Underwater" episode last week, but I'm glad Randy was there.

Over at the imdb boards, there's a lot of people who hate Sharona. It's hard to believe. I can understand liking Natalie more. Or when you started to watch the show and the first assistant you saw was Natalie. But there are people who watched the Sharona episodes when they were new that hate her. It's like they couldn't have imagined that one day she would leave the show and they were waiting her out, lol.

As for this thread, I should say that I don't want Disher to leave. I'm just saying that he could be replaced and the show could still function. But to take away the relationship and chemistry of Monk and the Captain would really destroy the show, in my opinion. Keep in mind, I'd still watch, because I'm a fan. And when I'm a fan, I stay loyal to the show.

OMG, I HATE those IMDB boards! When Stanley Kammel died, I went over there just to see if I could find any movies and stuff that he had been in, and I clicked on a few of those threads. The stuff they were saying about Stanley had me ! It was awful!

Ive been watching since Season 2 I guess. The first episode I saw was the one with the guy who traded shoes, and moved the sun dial. I can't remember the name of the episode, but I'll ask my husband.

As for Randy, I agree that the show could still go on without him, but he provides a lot of comic relief. One of my favorite episodes was centered around him (Mr. Monk Visits a Farm)! Tony Shalhoub's wife was in that one! I loved that scene where she hit him on the butt! The look on his face was priceless!

I think the show has lost a lot of it's luster this season... but that's for another thread.

Yeah the posters at imdb are just mean and cruel. I only go there for the shows that aren't that popular here (Monk, Buffy, Angel, etc).

The episode title is "Mr. Monk and the Captain's Wife". And I started watching the show on DVD. I watched the first season, while the second season was airing. Then I watched the second season DVD while the third season was airing. I started watching the episodes on USA when Natalie debuted. And I've been watching them Friday nights ever since.

BTW, thanks for posting here on the Monk board. It's nice to talk about this show and not be afraid I'll get me head ripped off (like at imdb), lol.

I'm here, so I hope you'll forgive my outburst!
Actually I used to be an avid poster at the official Monk site on the USA Boards, but even they started to get on my nerves. Most of the people over there are nice, but some of them can be way over the top. The worst thing was that back in June, the USA "big shots" decided to implement a new sign in procedure for the board. Everything was okay, until the beginning of July. I was usually always logged in like I am here, and suddenly I was being asked to log back in. Well the problem with that is that the thing wouldn't LET me log back in, so I ended up having to create an ENTIRELY new account and start back at ZERO posts!! As a newbie! Even though I had joined in 2006! And I had been at 1006 posts! It happened to a lot of people and that board has never been the same sense!

I have some more to say but I'm going to start a new thread for it. I don't want to take over this one!
