I haven't bought and AGS dvds yet but was wondering if the pilot episode which was first shown as part of Make Room for Daddy was included in any of the season sets. It was included in season 5 extras of MRFD. It was funny and had a different actor playing the town drunk, no Barney and Frances Bavier played a lady from town that stops in to the courthouse but her name wasn't Aunt Bee.

yea, and the interior of the courthouse was different, and Andy was also the newspaper editor, too. In the show, he was the sherriff and the Justice of the Peace. Also, he didn't have a deputy.
Don Knotts was added because Andy & him are good friends (thet met when both were on Broadway in the play-and later movie-"No Time for Seargents") Anyway, after the "M.R.F.D." episode aired, Andy asked Don if he saw it. Don said he did, so Andy asked him what he thought of it. Don said "It was good, but, you know, I found myself thinking that it would have been better if you had a deputy. Someone to 'play off of' " Andy said "That's a good idea. Why don't you call Sheldon Leanord (executive producer and creator of both shows) and see what he thinks of that." So, that's how they came to add Barney to the cast. |

Unfortunately, the episode on the MRFD DVD is an edited syndicated version. Feel free to send me a private message if anyone's interested in getting this one uncut.
