Default Breakup/dissatisfaction/etc.

What do you think about the way the Monkees handled their breakup? It's obvious that Mike and Peter were the most unsatisfied with their image, since they were the two most musically talented members.

But weren't they just biting the hand that fed them? They would have been unknowns without the Monkees. There are plenty of of talented musicians who never had their opportunity.

They remind me of Ace Frehley and Peter Criss of KISS. They were the most talented members of the band, but they had no clear perspective of their true place in the music world, which led to their own unsatisfaction. Which is why they were kicked out of the band for over ten years.

The Monkees threw away their careers, although I think that was mostly Mike's doing. They probably should have listened to Don Kirshner, their original music producer and the true brains behind the music.

On the other hand I really enjoyed the album "Headquarters" and the other songs where they had more creative participation and input. I liked that music more than most of the other stuff.

It's complicated.

Default

After watching Daydream Believer and listening to the commentaries from the band, it seems like Mike Nesmith had a backup plan the whole time he was on the show, since he was going to inherit his mom's fortune from inventing Liquid Paper. So he had nothing to lose.

Davy said it was "fifty million." Peter said "a quarter of a million" which I'm guessing was more accurate.

Default hmmm maybe....

yeah sure mike might have had his share of the "whole band breaking up thing" but remeber peter was the one that left the band frist not mike! and don krishner well the way the monkees talked about him he sounded like a real jerk! i mean he wouldn't even let them play on there own and he wasn't even going to let them do headquaters! they had to fight for that! i'm sorry but made up or not i think they derserved more than they got! besides a rock group memeber used to say being in a band is kind of like marriage you can stay together for a long time or you don't! and i very much agree with that!
