Question Does Fred ever work?

I've probably seen only 1/4 of the serie's episodes, but I've never seen Fred work a single day. Is that the premise... that he's retired?

he's not retired, he is just lazy. He does cook for Lamont at least. And in one episode he even starts vacuuming right before Lamont comes home, and right after a nap. He does do a little bit sometimes. A very little bit.

Thanks.

Does Fred, for any reason, work in any episode?

Fred does get two jobs during the series. Well, three if you want to count his stint on the city council. One job was at a Car Wash (to pay back money his friend "stole" from Lamont's poker partners) and the other was at a restraunt(to pay off a loan he took out as a wedding present for Lamont and Janet). All only lasted one episode.

I think Lamont was supposed to be the one who picked up the things and delivered them and Fred was the one who keep count of what things they were selling, how much they were making and what deliverys need to be made. Since Fred was 65 and lamont was 32, It made more sense for lamont to do most of the Physical work-lol

Fred always balked when Lamont would ask him for help unloading bathtubs.

Fred's job was to take care of the house and take care of Lamont. He was supposed to take care of the customers and do all the housework.

I think it's because,as ah, Ester would put it "...he's a snaggly old jack-as**d lazy fool...

(well that's a little harsh...I wouldn't say Fred was 100% lazy but maybe 80%)

Fred works, but mostly falls asleep except for the ep from the 5th season where he was trying to get into the Guiness Book of World Records for staying awake. Hilarious conclusion in that ep.
