'Amazing Race' Toes Starting Line in February

Monday, January 09, 2006
12:14 PM PT

Fans of "The Amazing Race" have done their best to forget this fall's underwhelming "Family Edition." Apparently CBS has too.

In announcing that the show will return to the airwaves at the end of February, the network makes no mention of the most recent installment, whose ratings lagged behind the two previous seasons. It does note, however, that the show "returns to its international format where teams of two will travel to exotic locations, spanning five continents."

All that will happen starting Tuesday, Feb. 28, when "The Amazing Race" launches its ninth run with a two-hour premiere. The announcement Monday (Jan. 9) follows on the heels of the unveiling of the latest group of "Survivor" contestants. That show returns Thursday, Feb. 2.

"Survivor" will have to face two weeks of NBC's Winter Olympics coverage after it premieres, but "The Amazing Race" will have no such hurdles. Its debut is scheduled for two days after the closing ceremonies in Torino, Italy.

I kind of forgot about the possibility of this show starting up again. Last time I started to really lose interest. Especially after they went like 3 weeks without eliminating anyone. I'm not sure if I'll watch it this season.

I can't wait for the premiere on ARIX!!! It will be great to have the basic concept of eleven teams of two back! The only bad thing is that after the two-hour premiere, the show will now be on at 10:00PM EST instead of the nine o'clock time I've grown accustomed to...

I can't wait! I'm a huge fan of AR, and I am happy they are going back to the original two person teams format. The family edition was interesting, but it definitely should never happen again. I'm actually glad they are putting it at 10PM, cuz that means I can watch it right after American Idol, with the exception of the two hour season premiere of course. I'm gonna record American Idol next week, cuz I cannot wait any longer for AR lol.

and it was dull,dull, dull
i stopped watching after 3 weeks b/c i was bored to death

The new season of TAR is awesome! I'm so glad the old concept as returned. I really like all of the teams and so far, none of them have gotten on my nerves too terribly as in previous editions, all the frat boys and their non-stop thinking about ways they can score some sex will probably go tiresome very quickly... I really like the "Hippies", and they've impressed me so far!

I feel asleep during the first episode and since then I was watching other things so I lost intrest in the show. I just feel the concept of the show has gotten old. Are you guys still liking it?

I still love the show!!! Last week's episode was a blast, with the teams dressing up in lederhosen and smashing bottles of wine over each other's heads!!! I was sad that the mother and daughter were eliminated, however! So far, I don't dislike any of the teams like I normally did during previous seasons, although the doctor (Lake) is not my favorite person...
