Please forgive me from the outset, I haven't watched this show (reruns or newer episodes) in well over 6 or 7 years. But I just started getting back in the habit of TIVO'ing it daily on Lifetime. And, I just found this message board and I'm curious about a few stories that I remember from a long time ago..I don't remember the names involved though so..this might be a shot in the dark.
#1. The story of the young man, he was like 18 or 19, somehow got mixed up in a drug deal supposedly and was found dead in his car in a garage in Chicago? (This show probably aired in the early 1990's, originally). #2. The story of this college student who got paranoid and thought he was being followed and eventually wound up dead. The police ruled it as a suicide but his mother and father insisted someone murdered him and it sounded like they had convincing evidence. (This show probably aired in the mid 1990's, originally). #3. Young teenage kid in Tennessee (I think) was out hunting alone and wound up dead of a gunshot wound to the head. The police ruled it a suicide but the father insisted that he was murdered after coming across some drug dealers or something? (Not sure but I think it aired early in the series..late 80's) #4. By far one of the freakiest stories I ever remember seeing on UM. This elderly woman who vanished seemingly into thin air. She lived alone...etc. Then one day she was found dead and tied to a tree? I remember REALLY being freaked out by that segment. Anyone know the resolution to any of these? If there was one.. Glad I found that Lifetime is still showing this show. |

#4 is the Ethel Kidd story. Her killer was charged with her murder I believe. It turns out, he lived just a mile down the road from where Ethel lived. I believe the police were able to get him by matching his hand writing to the map he left in her front yard as well as DNA evidence. He was already in prison for an unrelated crime at the time of his charge.
I would never want to live out in the middle of nowhere like Ethel did. If a killer is chasing me (God forbid) I want my neighbors to be able to hear the screams. It didn't look as though Ethel's neighbors were in close proximity of her house. |

The Dan Short case has also been featured in an episode of Forensic Files. The name of the episode is "Stick 'Em Up." |

Sadly, she died of cancer in 2003. Her life ended without any justice in her son's case.

I don't know of any updates but the first story you're referring to is Chad Mauer. He was from Wisconsin and found dead in his car in a garage on the south side of Chicago and there was speculation he was involved in a drug transaction.
The third story of the boy found shot dead in the woods is Norman Ladner. He was from Mississippi. His parents don't believe it was suicide. I don't know of any new developments in that case. |

I take it UM hasn't gotten an update on it, that it's still ruled as a suicide. |

I thought of another case this afternoon, while pondering UM (I've had a lot of time on my hands today..) there was a case that about some sniper. If I remember correctly, the story happened in Alabama or Miss. and it was over a period of years where there were unsolved killings out in this sparsely populated area.
The police/FBI theorized it was one lone nut killing people, etc. Was there ever an update on this? |
