I Ordered Some Redd Foxx Standup Comedy CD's - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I ordered 2 cd's of his from this online music company called Serenade Music. I can't wait to hear these Redd Foxx cd's. I know he was funny doing standup. Has anybody heard him do standup before?

I got Redd Foxx Live and Funny on cassete, but that wasn't one of his best ones.

Well my Redd Foxx cd came in the mail today. It's called Redd Foxx Uncensored. I'm gonna listen to it next week.

I listened to Redd Foxx Uncensored and it wasn't funny to me. I listened to another standup cd by him called The Best Of Redd Foxx. That wasn't funny either. He's not funny doing standup in my opinion. That's a shame too because he was very funny on Sanford And Son. Inside of the cd i bought by him, it said that he was born in Chicago. I thought he was born in St.Louis? I also saw inside of the cd that Redd Foxx isn't his real name. I forgot what his real name is.

Redd's real name was John Sanford. His brother's name was Fred Sanford.

I wouldn't say Redd is not funny doing stand up. You probably heard his later albums. The one I got wasn't funny either. But I think he was off the chain in his early years. My uncle who grew up in the 50s and 60s said he use to listen to his albums a lot, and told me that Redd was raw and dirty and funny back then. I don't know, that's just what I think.

I was in a used record store and saw a Redd Foxx album called, "Wash Your Ass" or something like it. He was standing next to a donkey.

I have a number of Redd's old LP's on Loma records (circa 1967, I believe) and King records (late 1960's, when he owned the Redd Foxx Club in L.A.) and they are hilarious. A little repetition in the gags, but Redd's salty delivery works even better on record, if anything.

Might lose a little something in the CD era because these are basically just one 17 minute track on each LP side, without banding, but if you can find "In a Nutshell", "Pass the Apple, Eve", "Matinee Idol" or "Bare Facts" anywhere, they're all well worth picking up.

Absolutely true. It's discussed on either the Redd Foxx biography or True Hollywood Story.
