I'm Ready For The Munsters In Color! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

After seeing Bewitched the colorized version, I'm ready to see The Munsters get colorized. I wonder if it will ever happen. I like the way Bewitched turned out and hope they do the same with The Munsters.

Personally, I would rather see THE MUNSTERS in its original black-&-white. I've seen the color pilot and the two movies featuring the original cast (the 1966 theatrical feature "MUNSTER, GO HOME" and the 1981 TV-movie "THE MUNSTERS' REVENGE"). Those are fine; I have no problem with them. But I see no need to colorize the TV episodes. (Frankly, since the later episodes of
BEWITCHED were already in color, I saw no need to colorize the rest of them, either. But that's just me.)

When Jeannie is released it's going to be like bewitched, they're going to offer both the b&w and colorized sets. I'm overjoyed cause I've always wondered how the show would look in color. The Studios are doing this to attract a younger following, who aren't use the black and white versions. I also like the colorized pictures that laugh30 made in the colorized pic thread.

Colorization ruins the shows. They should be seen as they originally were.

Gilligan's Island looks stupid colorized. I think the Munsters would look the same way. It would also loose its erie effect.

How clever is Barbara.

The thing that bothers me with colourisation is getting the colours right. At least they've got a pilot episode (which I think looks great) to go with. Personally, I would have loved to have seen a colour season of The Munsters.

I have a hunch that, had THE MUNSTERS been renewed for a third season, the
final season would have been filmed in color. By 1966, most prime-time programs were in color. Both of the network shows opposite THE MUNSTERS
(NBC's DANIEL BOONE and ABC's BATMAN) were telecast in color. So, color
might have given the show a bit of an edge.

I agree tv star collector, plus Munster Go Home looked great in color except for Grandpa's overly bushy eyebrows.

If they had originally made them in color, okay, they would have looked great. BUT I think if they were to be colorized Herman would have been green, like in a light washed out shade of grass green. I doubt I could watch a whole show that way. Heck, I adjust the color on TV sets at Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Wrong is wrong. People aren't bright pink and Munsters aren't real green.

In all the publicity photos (on comic book covers and other merchandise)--and
in the two movies ("MUNSTER, GO HOME" and "THE MUNSTERS' REVENGE")-- they always look like a pale shade of blue to me. Still, I have heard them
referred to (even by characters in the films) as being "green," which I never
understood. Blue is blue, and green is green.

Who is to say they wouldn't try and match the right colors? You never know.

The shows that I'd like to see have episodes colorized are the ones that just missed going into a color season when they were cancelled in 1966: The Munsters, the Addams Family, the Dick Van Dyke Show. These are the shows that should the get the colorizing treatment. But instead, it's been shows that did have later seasons filmed in color that have had the black and white seasons colorized.

Patty Duke show was cancelled due to it costing more to produce colored episodes, the ratings also didn't justify its renewal.
