Default Estelle on the DVD covers

Does it bug anybody else that they keep putting photos of Estelle without her glasses on for the DVD covers?

I know the 1st one has her in her glasses, and that's so much more "Sophia"---we rarely saw her without them (just in bed and a couple of "I lost my glasses" episodes). I just can't believe they've kept doing the rest of the seasons so far with her de-glassed. I know it's not a big deal, and it probably seems very petty to some, but dang it, I want classic Sophia on the covers! lol

She does look different without the glasses.

I found it odd that they were using photographs of Estelle Getty the actress and not as Sophia Petrillo. I guess the studio head shots are probably more glamourous!

I agree. Using her sans glasses once is one thing, but every set except season 1 is without glasses, unless Sophia takes her glasses off for portraits, lol

You know, I never really noticed, but she does look very different without them. Glasses were a part of the "old lady" image that Sophia had. She looks much more herself with them on.

Didn't Estelle actually don a white wig when she played Sophia? I saw her in a movie in 1992, around the time GG ended -- Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot -- and she was sans her white wig... So Estelle was half herself, half Sophia in these pics

yep, in the flashback sequences when there'd be a young Dorothy visiting her, Estelle looked just like her normal self in those scenes. Last I saw of her in the early part of the decade before she retired for good because of her illness, she still had the red hair.

It looks like they use to take the official photos without the glasses as well. But I think in the last two dvd cases she looks faked.

But you just said it... "You never really noticed it." So, while it is true she's not wearing them, you didn't notice it so much.

FYI, Estelle has brown hair (at least during TGG). She did wear a wig throughout the show (except right at the beginning, her hair was powdered white).

One thing that bugs me about Betty on the 3rd season cover - her pic looks like it was taken during her Mary Tyler Moore days...like more towards the end of their run. She looks younger on that cover than the other three, and it shows in her face. Plus her hair is a lot darker, even darker than the 4th-season cover. She had very light hair while she was on GG. Oh well, maybe I'm overanalyzing it. *shrug*

I know this sounds picky, lol. But on the third season cover did anyone else notice a white spot on their DVD case where the bright yellow/orange color should be? It's between Betty's face and her hair.

I don't like the way she looks on the fourth season boxset. It doesn't look like her. Compare that picture of her to the picture on the first season and it's like two different people. Anyone agree?

Cool

The last two seasons of The Golden Girls should have Sophia Petrillo wearing her glasses from the picture of 1985 when she had that stroke. I hope they put that picture of Sophia when she suffered that stroke on the sixth and seventh season of the box cover DVD.
