Sad Just wondering if I was a bad person...

Okay, so I've been thinking about something for a while. I guess it's a hypothetical situaton someone mentioned to me, and my response to it made me start to wonder.

Let's say you had found this person who was the love of your life, you knew that no one on earth could make you happier. The only problem is, you also know that there's no way with them that you could live the life you've always dreamed of. So despite your happiness, there would be things you always wanted to but would not be able to experience. Would you leave this person for someone who you could stand to spend your life with if you knew that they could give you the life you've always dreamed of? Even if they couldn't make you as emotionally happy as the less successful person?

Well, when I was asked about this situation....I said that I would leave the love of my life to pursue the things I'd always wanted to. I got a lot of negative response from that, and I was just wondering if anyone else would respond the same way I did...or if I was just a shallow heartless person.

Do you really want to live forever?

Well, to put myself in hypotheticalville, I'd hang onto them, I guess because that stupid inner optimist in me would be claiming things could get better. And because I'm 100% sure that the love of my life, well, I wouldn't be the love of his, so I'd just hang onto whatever I could until it ended and I became even more miserable.

I think it depends on the person. I mean, if you've never experienced meeting the love of your life, then ti's easy to say "drop him and go for yor dreams". I could never imagine leaving Jonathan just to travel the world, make lots of money, etc, because those things don't last forever.

And no, your not a bad person at all! Everyone is different

Well I really don't know yer situation that well but if he was the love of your life then he would support you in whatever you do no matter how difficult the relationship could get, and vice versa.

If I had met the love of my life, I would stay with him. Having alot of money wouldn't mean anything to me without him.

I agree with that. A great wife or husband will support their spouse in anything they want to do.

I agree that if you have never found the "love of your life" that it's easier to say that you would leave them to pursue your dreams. So to answer your question, no I don't think it makes you a bad person. And even if you never changed your mind about it, you still wouldn't be a bad person.

Well, I know I'd never leave the love of my life...and I'm lucky that I found her at such a young age, because I know that doesn't happen for everybody. But no, like everyone said, no matter what you choose, it doesn't make you a bad person.

I just know that I would never leave the love of -my- life, because even after an argument when I've gotten really mad or irritated, I think about how bad life would be like without her. Nobody -really- understands you the way your ultimate love does, and everyone else would always just feel like second best.

There is no such thing as a good or bad person. There are only people who make either "good" or "bad" decisions.

But onto your post....

I would say go with your heart. You are the only person who knows what's best for YOU. Follow your heart.

I think you just described the life I've always dreamed of... finding someone like that, being able to be with them and count on them long-term. But that's my dream, not yours. If there are other things you want more... then it probably isn't the love of your life, and that's not necessarily wrong.

Even when there's real love there, these things don't always work out, because different people will want different things, and everybody's got to follow their own instincts and needs.

I can't say I'd make the same choice, but the only WRONG choice in a case like that is to do something that's not true to who you are.

You're not a bad person because you want to pursue your dreams. Different things are more important to people in life than other things. No one should judge you for that, so screw those people.
