Default Martin Teal storyline...Cheers worst ever?

I always wince at this two-parter currently airing on TV Land. It says written by regular scribe Phoef Sutton, but it seems as if it's something that belonged on Night Court or who knows what. Resorting to two managerial changes over a three episode run to screw with Rebecca seemed a bit desperate. Not to mention Teal's blatant sexual harrassment (in the real world a woman would give him a polite "no" and be on her way), keeping bees in the bar, and then sending Sam to Tijauna or whatever. And Rebecca with a gun in part two! Just seemed so un-Cheers-ish to me.

I've never noticed that this storyline was all that bad, but looking back I can see what you mean. I haven't seen the episode in a while, so yeah. And I believe that the worst Cheers storyline goes to that crap where Sam and Rebecca are trying to have a baby. Ugh.

Agreed, that story line was sheer desperation.

Well, the baby thing ran and ran for like half a season. I just mean the Teal one was so outlandish in it's reality. Sam and Becks trying for a baby was hair-brained as well, but with Teal it was marriage proposals and Mexico and guns and ugh.

I never really found the Martin Teal storyline to be that bad.

I always liked that one. Having Sam down in Mexico with a Norm twin was great!

Wasn't the Sam baby thing written in because Kirstie Alley was trying for a baby? I remember reading that she had finally gotten pregnant, but then quickly miscarried, so instead of leading into a pregnancy for Rebecca, they had to rewrite the storyline to end with Sam and Rebecca deciding they couldn't raise a baby together.

Amen, that was so bad , even the cast realised it was a mistake

I thought it was funny how Rebecca kept avoiding him until she found out he was the boss.

I didn't care for that storyline too much either.

The whole Martin Teal thing wasn't really terrible, but I guess since I found him annoying, I didn't care for those eps too much myself. To each his own!

Sam and Rebecca trying to have a baby was horrible. you'd hope that sam had more class than that but if there was one consistency from that terrible story arc, it was that it furthered along the deterioration of rebecca's character. her immorality of trying to have a kid with someone she had no feelings for was in congruence with her train wreck of a career and love life
