Does anyone else think this is stupid? The fact that he is poking fun at the struggling ratings at shows that are on the same network as his show? I thought he is only supposed to make fun of a tv show with bad ratings from another network

I just thought since they are both apart of the NBC family why joke about struggling shows on the Network that you are apart of. |

I think David Letterman used to joke a lot about CBS too.

Oh well I didn;t know that. I thought Jay was just running out of things to joke about and decided to joke about the ratings of the network he is apart of.

Guess he figures that joking about crummy shows that are failing makes up for all of the promotions of crummy shows he has to sit through as host of the info-mercial known as "The Tonight Show".
I love Leno, and I usually listen to his monologues (and I love the way he does "Headlines").... but I hate celebrity self-promotion, which is all these 'interviews' really are... Jay: Do you have a clip of the show? Guest: Yes, they gave me a clip, but I'm not even sure what scene it is... (yeah, right) |

Leno's been joking about NBC for years. Letterman was really nasty to NBC, then he started the CBS jokes when he switched over.
hee hee... Hey, many times the networks make poor decisions and put dreadful shows on. Like they think we want to watch this stuff? So why not joke about it. Letterman really gave it CBS when they aired that Noah's Ark mini-series. That was probably one of the worst shows ever, I turned it off after a couple minutes. blah.

...that goes all the way back to STEVE ALLEN: ***** a hole in your network's "big ego" and let the viewers know how bad their schedule REALLY is! Steve was good-natured about NBC's "disasters"--Paar was rather wry about that---Johnny, of course, was a master at "deconstructing" the prime-time schedule and his OWN show {when Carson stopped appearing in the 11:15-11:30pm(et) segment of "THE TONIGHT SHOW" in early 1965 in favor of starting at 11:30-- he wanted his monologue to be seen on ALL NBC affiliates, and the 11:15 "start time" was pre-empted more often by expansion of the "11:00 news" to a half-hour in most major markets-- he remarked, in one of his monologues at that time, that the only people who saw the first 15 minutes of the show were "the Armed Forces (overseas) and four Indians in Gallup, New Mexico". Ed McMahon usually fronted the 11:15 segment with Skitch Henderson [or Milton DeLugg] and the band until January 1967, when the show "officially" started at 11:30, the way Carson wanted it}.
Jay knows NBC is once again a "sinking ship", and possibly he's secretly glad that, by May 2009, he'll no longer be a part of it after Conan O'Brien succeeds him as host of "THE TONIGHT SHOW". |
