Default Texas Murder & Suspicious Disappearance

Another request for info fellow UMiacs!

Apologies if this thread has been covered elsewhere, or is otherwise redundant.

The case involved a man and his de facto wife in Texas. They would quarrel incessantly, and generally had a tense relationship. The male had a son from a previous relationship and the segment alleged he could not stand to have his de facto wofe criticise or discipline the boy in any way.
Anyway, the de facto wife was shot six times in her bed, and the boy and his dad had disappeared. They found his car two days later - with blood in the back, but this didn't match any of the parties involved. Unfortunately, the boy and Dad weren't able to be found.
Later, there was a phone call to the womans parents, where they claimed the missing boy screamed for help before the call was abruptly terminated.

Anyone remember this segment and sad case? Anyone know any further information on it?

Great board with great people here.

I remember it well. The victim's name was Latricia White. The boyfriend and his son who are still missing are Dub and Chance Waukerhagen. I definitely think Dub murdered Latricia but don't really understand why the Christmas gifts in the vehicle had blood on him. Latricia appeared to have been shot in bed while she slept. Here's Chance's doe network profile:

Gracias again!

I'm with you, I think he murdered Latricia and then went on the lam with his son. I think Chance is still alive, and knows the whereabouts of his father. I hope he is brought to account for what I believe he did.

I don't know... if I remember the case, it stated that Dub hasn't been in contact with his family since the incident. To me, that's a sign that they're dead. However, the family could have been lying on the UM segment. I know that there are quite a few families that have been profiled that we all seem to think are being dishonest (Wendy Camp, Charlotte Polis, etc...)

I don't necessarily think they're dead. If he were going to kill himself and Chance I think he would have done it at the scene after he killed Latricia (which I think he did). They did say that Dub had a lot of contacts and could be working as a trucker I believe. It would be easy to stay on the run at that type of occupation.

Fair enough. I forgot that he was a trucker... he would have literally thousands of places to go.... good call!

Not to mention that the Grandparents got a phone call from Chance! {This is the mothers parents, NOT Latricias}. He put blood around the back of his truck, and left his rifle there to throw the police off the scent, then took off with the boy. As Latricias father said - if they were all killed here, why take the 270lb body {+Chance} and leave the 120lb one?

As strange as it seems, I was Chance and his dad's next door neighbor in the late 80's. He had been living in Ohio, just moved there a short time before and he told me he was moving, probably to Texas. Said he had family down there. He told me that he was a widower and Chance was his son. Chance at the time was about 4-5 and was a very quiet child. Didn't talk much, didn't play outside and was always dirty.

When I saw this story the first time on UM, I about fell out of my chair because I recognized them both right away. Especially the dad; he really was kinda creepy.

Well...I've been stewing for years about what to do. I called the police right after I saw the case and they said they would get back to me, but they never did. Never saw the case again and I assumed that they had caught up with them.

Today while reading the posts I realized that they hadn't been found. So I called 1-800-THE-LOST (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) to talk to them. The lady on the phone said that since Chance is now a legal adult, they have NO FURTHER INTEREST IN THE CASE!!!!!!!

No wonder people don't want to get involved. The authorities don't find you credible and/or they don't have time if it doesn't fit their case scenario.

Go Figure.

Wow, very interesting palmyrafan! It was good of you to call them and I'm sure there are a lot of family members who would love to know where he is. Now you knew him before he met Latricia, right? I wonder why he would tell you he was a widower when Chance's mom was still alive? So do you think he killed Latricia?

Wow. That's disgusting that people would STOP looking for someone just because they hit the age of 18.

He probably told me he was a widower because he didn't want me asking questions about where his wife/ex-wife was, etc. Telling people you are a widower pretty much stops any further questions along those lines.

This guy was creepy enough that one time I got a package of his by mistake; from a music company (bought a record or something). When I went to knock on his door he accused me of taking it from in front of his door. I pointed out that if I wanted to take his package I would have kept it. He apologized and said that he was mistrustful of people.

At the time, he was working for a private cleaning company and at night he would come home and drink. Apparently that wasn't working too well for him because when I got ready to move, he mentioned that he was moving too. Said he wanted to drive trucks but that the prospects in the area weren't too good and was going south, most likely to Texas.

He always seemed like a weasly type of guy. He never would look at you directly, at least not during discussions of more serious topics. He would joke around with you, but when discussions turned more serious he would start shifting from one foot to another and not look at you.

Up until that time, I always thought he was the creepiest guy I had ever met. I was always uncomfortable around him and avoided him if I could.

Do I think he could have killed Latricia? Don't think I knew him well enough to establish what he could and couldn't have done. Maybe Latricia found out he wasn't being entirely truthful about his dearly departed wife or something and threatened to contact the authorities. Who knows?

And as for the statute of limitations on kidnapping? Even parental, non-custodial? I've seen cases in the news since that time where the non-custodial parent is found with the kids (either grown up or not) and them being prosecuted.

The lady I spoke to at 1-800-THE-LOST told me that since my lead was so old that the authorities weren't really interested in it. Said they were only interested in recent sightings and leads!!!!!!

No wonder they have such a problem finding missing children. They seem to feel that if it's not a recent case or recent sighting that it's not "worthy" enough of their time and effort. She even told me that while yes, the authorities were interested in all children, they didn't have the resources to devote to checking out every lead that came along, especially old ones.

Hold on tight to your kids folks. Appears that even the people who are supposed to care, don't.

Any lingering doubts I had regarding his innocence have dissipated entirely, after reading your inisghts into his character. The paranoia regarding the package at your house - for some reason that just clinches it for me. {A gut feeling}.

What a small world it is - getting smaller all the time too.

Thanks for the very interesting information.

Well was watching this and looking into it. There isnt a lot out there but I think Dub did kill his girlfriend in a fit of rage and then took his son and went on the run where he remains today. Where they are is anyone's guess but I am pretty sure they are both still alive. I would certainly hope they were alive so that the boy could have a life and so that Dub could hopefully get caught and sent to prison. If you ask Dub's family they think he is just as sweet as apple pie. Now I dont know the man so I am not saying there was nothing good about him. Clearly he had a temper. It also raised questions when Dub's family was insisting almost from the start that he was dead. Now they claim they have had no contact with him at all. But I am not sure I believe this. I think that was Chance that called his maternal grandparents several months after his disapperance. I dont think Dub had planned out the murder of his girlfriend. I think it was just something where he got emotional and didnt take the time to think of what he was doing and then he killed her and realizing what he had done he took off.
