Did anyone else think that Crystal Bernard was good looking, but that she had a bad personality? The personality of her character was horrible. It was a good show, and you did care for her character, but it was only because you knew her.
I'm not sure if it was the actress or the writing of the character, though. She never bothered me in other roles. |

Crystal is not her character, so how can Crystal have a bad personality?

I always liked Helen's personality. I find her to be a strong, independent-minded woman who takes no crap from anyone, but she is also kind and caring, and she isn't an all-out bitchy shrew either like some popular prime-time female characters (Debra and Marie Barone immediately pop into my mind).
To each his (or her) own, I guess ![]() On the topic of annoying character personalities, I have to say that I didn't always care for Antonio's personality. I like the guy, but he often whined and complained about his job, his life, etc. However, we never really saw him get off his ass and try to do something positive to change his life, like go back to school and start a new career. I know, I know, it's just a TV show

My only complaint with Helen was that her attitude was a little harsh at times. Telling Joe he was a dating mistake in her life and she was ashamed of it, and of course driving her Jeep through his office...twice! Then the way she let Davis walk all over her (her ranting in "Joe Blows" was borderline bi-polar). And with the quickie divorce episode, the way she kept grabbing Antonio and shaking him was so unrealistic. For comic effect of course, but made her character look unstable. But I always enjoyed her more quiet moments of emotion, later with Joe or when Joe and Brian buy her the cello.

I always liked Helen. She was my second favorite character up next to Joe....she was funny....and she was a human. She had her bad moments just like the rest of us...that's what made her so believable.

I liked Helen too. She was tough and knew how to speak her mind. But, she was also fun to be around and would do anything for her friends.

In rewatching season 1 and 2 recently, the whole jeep thing was the only real writer mis-step. No matter how long she knew Joe, there's no way they could've stayed friends after that. Plus her refusing to pay him for it, whining about how he broke up with her (she left *him*). Fortunately they kept her from any sort of other collapse they rest of the show's run.
