What if there was never any Three's Company? What if Jack, Janet, Terri and Larry had never met? What if a sudden turn of events brought everyone together for the first time?
The year was 1987. The morning air was cool and crisp. It held the promise of rain later in the day. Janet smiled as she tended to her garden. She loved her little country style home overlooking the ocean. It was just perfect for her. She loved the peaceful feeling she got whenever she worked in her garden. She felt fortunate to be able to afford to live here. She owned her own flower shop. Thanks to the previous owner. She paid them small payments each month. All in all is was a perfect setting and a perfect if not somewhat lonely life. She smiled as she thought about the wedding the following day. She was going with a friend that needed a date. Jack smiled as he closed the restaurant and headed home. Another successful day behind him. He was headed home. Home was an apartment in the middle of town. He smiled as he remembered the day he found it. It was the perfect apartment in the perfect area of town. It was a short 5 minute drive from the restaurant. He lived the perfect life. He smiled as he thought about the wedding of his friend tomorrow. He was the best man. Terri sighed as she walked out of the hospital. It had been another hectic day at the hospital. Three car accident victims, a bus accident and a shooting. She was glad the day was over. She looked forward to the wedding of her best friend tomorrow. Larry sighed as he walked out of the car lot. He jumped inside the used car that he drove and headed home. He was due at the wedding of a friend tomorrow. The next morning the wedding went off without a problem. The reception was held at a cozy little park overlooking the ocean. Janet was sitting alone, not exactly enjoying herself when she saw him for the first time. She was astonished at how gorgeous he was. He had a smile that could melt butter. His hair was the color of brown sugar and she could hear his laugh from where she was sitting. She could see herself falling for someone like him. Instead she sat at the table nursing a glass of wine and wishing she was anywhere else but here. Jack was walking around talking to the many people that came to the wedding. He was defintely a people person. He loved talking to anyone that would listen. He was halfway thru a funny story about something that had happened at the restaurant when he saw her. She looked so lost and bored. He wanted to walk over and ask her to dance. Her hair was the color of a raven. He felt his heart beat a little faster. He watched her for a few minutes. She looked like she would rather be anywhere else but here. He downed the last of his drink and walked over to where she was sitting and asked "Would you like to dance?" Larry was dancing with his date. Another blonde bombshell with no brains. When suddenly he spotted Terri dancing with her date. He lost his breath the first time he saw her. She was beautiful and had hair the color of wheat. She spotted him and they left their dates on the dance floor. Larry and Terri met on the dance floor and it was like everyone else in the world ceased to exist. After Janet caught her breath she answered Jack simply "Yes.. I would love to dance." She held out her hand and he grabbed it and they looked at each other and each would later say they felt a small spark when they held hands that first time..... |

That Monday morning Terri was full of a thousand questions. Mostly she wanted to know more about Larry. She was taken with his smile and charming attitude. She was dying to ask her friend Shannon more about the man that was at her wedding. Unfortunately that would have to wait until she returned from her honeymoon.
Janet called her friend Mark the Monday after the wedding. She was full of questions about the man that she met at the wedding. She wanted to know who is was and if he was involved with anyone. Mark answered the phone and laughed and Janet's questions. "Mark! It's Janet! I wanted to ask you a question about the man I met at the wedding. His name is Jack. Is he involved with anyone? Do you know anything about him?" Mark laughed and said "I know of him. He is a friend of the bride's husband Tom. They have been friends for years. I have only seen him at a few parties. He is usually with a different girl every time." Janet frowned and said "Well, I guess you don't know what he does for a living then." "He owns a restaurant. He works there too." "Oh!" Mark smiled and said "Yeah, the name of the restaurant is something very french sounding and hard to pronounce. I think it is in downtown Santa Monica." Janet smiled and said "Well, that should narrow it down to a few dozen restaurants!" Mark laughed and said "Well, you could always talk to Sharon, she might know more about him." Janet shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't really know her that well! I can't imagine asking her..." "Look, they are having a small party at their place next week. I will bring you and introduce you to her. She is really very nice." Janet smiled and said "Okay, I would love to ask her some questions about Jack!" They talked for a few more minutes and finally hung up the phone. On the other side of town Larry was wondering the same things about Terri. He had never felt that way about anyone before. He didn't understand it. Though he knew he wanted to know more about the beautiful woman that captured his heart. He couldn't wait for Tom to get back from his honeymoon. ***Two weeks later*** Shannon and Tom were having a party at their home. All of their friends were invited. The minute Terri got there she pulled Shannon aside and peppered her with questions about Larry. She wanted to know everything about him. "What's he like? What does he do for a living?" Shannon shook her head. She didn't want her friend to get involved with Larry. She had heard to many stories from Tom about him. "Terri, I have heard some terrible stories about him. He goes from girl to girl. He is a real ladies man. He sells used cars for a living. He..." Terri held up her hands and said "I think I want to find out for myself. I just need to know. Did Tom invite him tonight?" Shannon nodded her head and said "Yeah, there he is now." Terri watched as Larry walked into the room. He looked like a man that was very sure of himself. She smiled and tried to act casual. She walked over to where they were serving drinks and got herself one. She then went out to the pool and sat down on a chair and enjoyed to cool night air. Meanwhile Janet and Mark were just arriving. Mark smiled when he saw Shannon. He walked over to her and said "Hey there!! You look wonderful! Married life certainly agrees with you." "Mark!! How are you!?" "Good! I brought a friend. Janet Wood, this is Shannon Alterman. Shannon this is my friend Janet. She was wanting to ask you about..." Shannon interupted and said "Jack, I know. He called and asked Tom about you the day we got back from Hawaii. He was really taken with you!" Janet laughed and blushed and said "Is he here?" Shannon nodded and said "He is out back by the pool. Said something about needing some fresh air." Janet walked outside quickly and scanned the pool area. Her gaze fell on Jack. His back was facing her and she smiled as she walked over to him. She tapped him on the shoulder and was rewarded with a heartwarming smile. She smiled back and they walked over to sit on a pool chair. It was just feet from where Terri was sitting. Terri watched as Larry walked outside and saw her. He came and sat down next to her. The sat in silence. Each waiting for the other to speak..... |

Terri smiled. She was glad it was dark out. That way Larry couldn't see how incredibly nervous she was. Her hands were sweating and her heart was racing. She had never felt this way about a man before. There was something about this man that she found utterly fascinating! The more she was around him, the more she wanted to be around him. She said simply "It's nice to see you again tonight!" She thought to herself "Oh that sounds like the lamest thing I have every heard! Real original!"
"Well, I heard that Tom and Shannon were having a party, and I am never one to pass up a good party..." Terri laughed and their conversation faded into the background. Meanwhile Jack and Janet are deep in conversation. Jack is standing close to the pool and Jack says "So, I own a nice restaurant in Santa Monica. I live close by. It is a wonderful town..." Janet laughed and said "Well, I own a flower shop in downtown Santa Monica. It isn't much but..." Jack said "Nonsense! If you own it then I bet it is wonderful..." Janet blushed. She smiled at the man in front of her. She gave him a soft shove. Unfortunately it was just enough for him to loose his balance and tumble into the pool. Janet covered her mouth in horror as she watched him fall backwards! He came up sputtering and laughing. Janet was never so embarassed in her life!! She rushed to get a towel from the side of the pool and said "Oh goodnes!! I am so sorry! I didn't mean..." Jack laughed and stopped her in midsentence "No harm done! I am a klutz afterall!!" Terri and Larry saw what happened and they rushed over to watch. Terri laughed and said "Pardon me for saying this, but you look like a drowned rat!" Janet and Jack both laughed. They introduced themselves and Larry volunteered "I know where Tom keeps his spare clothes. If your interested..." "Gladly! I am soaked to the skin..." The sound of their voice fades as the walk into the house. Meanwhile Janet is sitting with Terri by one of the pool chairs. She says "I have never been so embarassed! I didn't mean to push him in the pool!!" Terri laughed and said "I don't really think he minds! He was more interested in you than he was in getting dry." Janet laughed and asked "Have we met before? You seem familiar somehow!" "I was at the wedding. I don't think we've me before. Not unless you've been to Wilshire Memorial." "Are you a doctor?" "No. I am a nurse." "Well, we deliver flowers there all the time.. I own Janet's Blossoms." "I love that shop!! They have the best flowers! They are always so fresh..." The girls continue to talk until the men come back. Jack is dry and wearing some of Tom's clothes. They made him look even more handsome. If that was possible. The two couples found a table to sit at. They spent the night talking to each other and becoming friends..... |
