Doogie's car

Didn't Doogie buy himself a 1950s convertible eventhough his father forbade him to? I clearly remember him driving it, but in the ep where he turned 16, his father ordered him to buy a newer car. So what happened with that?

The season 2 ep I'm watching now, Doogie has sort of a sky blue Chevy convertible that Vinnie borrowed and got into an accident with.
