Default Depression/anxiety/etc.

I know that these ailments are whored out by many, but I have some serious issues regarding them. People probably know that I'm a little screwed up since I complain about random stuff on here a lot, so I won't go into everything. Basically my problems lately have dealt with me feeling completely inadequate and helpless to the point where I have no clue of what to do with myself. I know that might sound strange, but I'm not sure of how else to describe it. I usually get really upset and just start crying and such. Then my family will ask me why I am so upset, and I never have any clue of what I am supposed to say to them. There is never anything in particular that happens to me to make me feel bad, I just randomly start to get extremely anxious and upset and emotional and blah blah. Tonight my parents brought me to the hospital because it's been so bad this past week. I've cried everyday for this entire vacation, which is strange because I thought having no school may help a bit. I'm just tired of being so isolated from everything. I've been alone for so long that I've built my own little world that I know isn't going to make me happy in the long run. I know that you guys are probably just thinking that you've heard this before, maybe from me, but I know for a fact that I can't keep living this way. It's been three years and I don't see things solving themselves. Well, yeah. I guess that this thread is basically just me whoring out my problems, but I promise that it's not for attention. I don't really have any friends and my parents are tired of hearing it from me, so you guys are next in line. Sorrry.

Hey there,

First off, lemme say that it's completely ok to vent here It feels good to just let everything go sometimes, even if it's just for the sake of making sense of it all.

I can definitely relate to how you feel. Sometimes people EXPECT us to have a reason to be sad, but what they don't get is that depression can happen for no apparent reason. Definitely makes it harder to pinpoint how to go about helping ourselves, that's for sure.

Anyway, has this always been happening? Or do you find it happens mostly around the winter? The reason I'm asking this is is because I went through a similar spell the winter of '99, when I was 17 years old. All of a sudden I just snapped, was crying all the time and locking myself in my room to sleep all day. I had NO idea why. I was constantly anxious that I was somehow going to die in the middle of the night and that fear gave me horrible insomnia. Has anything like this happened to you? (Or along those lines?)

Whatever it is, I'm really sorry Depression is definitely a rough thing to deal with, especially when you have no idea why.

Your whole post just screamed, Been There, Done That for me. I know exactly how you feel. It got so bad for me in college that I withdrew from society basically. I skipped classes all the time, lied to everyone, and even the slightest mention of my mood would make me cry. And you're right...there's no answer to that. You just feel like ****. Still occasionally, I'll get all pity party on myself and think I'm nothing but a giant loser going nowhere in life...I have no friends...everyone hates me...I'll die alone...etc.

The only thing that really helped me was Paxil. But, since you're too young, maybe you could try St. John's Wort. It's natural and I've heard it helps depression. Maybe you should talk to your parents about seeing a therapist. Talking to someone face-to-face who can help you thru these feelings could work wonders. Maybe you could even get into group therapy with others your age. Believe it or not, it can help when you know other people feel the exact same way you do.

But hey, vent here all you want. Venting is therapeutic in itself. One thing I like about here is that so many of us seem to have been thru these things.

Keep us updated on how you feel.

I have felt the same way during the month of December. This month has been the worst month for me in nearly an entire year. Every little thing makes me sooooo sensitive, especially when it deals with people around me.

i feel like that alot but all i get is ppl getting mad with me saying things like ' whats up with u?' 'why are u so miserable' and 'sort your life out' and 'why dont u just go see a doctor?'. it really irritates me cos sometimes i just want someone to talk to and that alone makes me feel better. but instead of getting support, people seem to get mad with me like its my fault or just ignore me and leave me like that. ive always had low self esteem but when my boyfriend came along my confidence built up then when he finished with me 2 months ago, my bit of confidence that id taken ages to build up completely vanished and now am back to crying over nothing again. grrrr

For me...
Depression is the day after Halloween.
Anxiety is the day before Halloween.

First off

I know how you feel. I've been through that situation many a times. In fact, I'm not entirely through my problems so I can't say I have any help. Just know that you can vent whenever you want here. That's what this place is for

I was really emotional and crying the past month, but I think a lot of it had to do with Molly and my period. Im a bitch though to my mother. Im fine all day at work, then the moment I get home its like UGH leave me alone! I dont think its depression, though thats what I thought it was a couple weeks ago when I was having little outbursts and breakdowns. Honestly, I think its my hormones since my period is way messed up and my emotions go from extremely high to a bottom low.

Nah, this isn't really a seasonal thing - it just comes on whenever it wants. Thank you everyone for caring enough to respond. I was having a rough time last night and just had to get everything out.

I know what depression and anxiety are like. I have had them both for many years and it is not a joke or a bore. They both are serious. I hope the best for you and don't mind at all if you vent.

Have you ever considered medication? Or perhaps seeing a psychiatrist?

Many people assume that only "crazy" people see psychiatrists, but that's just not true.

I suffer from depression, as well, and will be meeting with a psychiatrist in two weeks. I also meet with a social worker twice a week... but enough about me. Anyway, that's what I recommend.

I think I can relate to how you feel when you say that you don't know what to do with yourself. I sometimes think of myself as an object, and if I WERE, surely I would toss myself away. But..whatever. I'm not making sense, LOL.

Makes sense to me. People don't keep things they hate, they throw them away. If you hate yourself, you want to throw yourself away.

Have you been checked for pollycystic ovarian syndrome? I have it and that's exactly what it does to me It's actually pretty common in women. You should see about that. Also you could look into Manic Depression which also throws you from highs to lows.
