Is it just me or did June ask a lot of questions? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In all fairness, they didn't give June much else to do besides ask questions. She was involved in a few clubs and meetings, but she never really talked about those activities and she never mentioned any of the people she socialized with there. She had no hobbies, thoughts or opinions of her own. Compare her to Lucy or Alice Kramden who are housewives in the same era, they had much more developed personalities and lives than June.

Point is, I think all those questions she asked were just a way of keeping her in the conversation.

Most children at that time were accountable to their parents about their whereabouts and actions. Parents were not their kid's buddies and pals back then, and felt the need to know what their kids were doing. I think June reflected that attitude of the times.

June appears nosy, snooping, over-inquisitive, and worrysome because her family is just her entire life. As is posted above, she did have a club or 2 and an occasional afternoon tea, but we only hear about these things as devices to develop the plots which are always from the boys' points of view.

I have to agree frani. She was the only woman in the house so I'm sure she had to do what she could to feel apart of her sons' lives. I don't see her as nosey, I see her as a very concerned and interested mother and I must say it was nice to see that compared to now when a child is lucky to get 5 minutes from their mother. I like how Ward included her in raising the boys because I was always under the impression that it was the man that made the decisions where the kids were concerned, especially if they were boys! He may have the final word but he will at least ask her opinion.

I think also with her asking questions was her way of trying to feel out Ward to know what he would do if he wasn't there which I guess was in a way depending on him alot but, isn't that what wives did before the women's lib?
