If he was still on the show, does anyone think that painting that's used during the opening and closing credits of the people partying from seasons 4-6, would be used if James would have reamained on all 6 seasons? Would they continue to use the painting of the family?

I think it'd be a different painting of the family, to reflect how they all changed from season 1. Michael was older/taller, Willona was looking different, etc. I think it would've been a different family painting in place of the one they used.

I think it would've definitely be different, but it wouldn't be the painting of the dancing.

I remember the episode when he died. Florida was in denial the whole show, then she dropped the pitcher...it's been years since Ive seen that episode.
Why did James leave the show? contract dispute?

If I remember right, the actor died suddenly and had to be written out of the show.

Correction - James - aka John Amos did not die in real life during Good Times. If you watch West Wing, you would have seen him as Admiral Fitzwallace.

Yeah, Amos had ongoing disputes with the writers and producers of the show on the negative stereotypes portrayed(mainly the J.J. character), episode quality, and money. He also didn't feel he was being used enough on the show anymore. Norman Lear "released" John Amos from his contract effective September 1976 saying Amos was considered a "disruptive factor" to the writers and producers. James Evans was killed off and the show was never the same again without him.
