Fear Of Flying? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I haven't flown in 16 years, after a terrible flight and the plane being knocked around by turbulence. I honestly believe I'll never step foot on a plane for the rest of my life.

Im not afraid of it. I get a little freaked about taking off and landing, but other than that Im good. I am afraid though of flying over water, but that hasnt happened yet.

Love flying. I've done it nearly every year for the last 16 years or so. One of my first plane trips was when I went to Disney World in Florida with my family in January of 1990.

For eight school years, I commuted to and from my dad's house some weekends to visit him. I was attending a deaf school, which was also a boarding school...so the school had dorms and kids who were from out of town and stuff like that. I lived at home with my mom in the town where it was at, so I was a day student and didn't live in the dorms...but I had divorced parents and my dad lived about 200 miles away so it was easier for me to join the out-of-town kids and catch a flight to visit my dad. I figure I was on the plane a good 300 or more times during the eight years I commuted to my dad's via plane.

The last time I was on a plane was in March 2004, when I flew clear across the Atlantic Ocean to go to London. That was a new experience in itself for me... Having to get a passport before I left, going through customs, etc. It took about 10 to 20 minutes for me to go through customs at Gatwick when I got to London.

On the way home from London, I had the (un)fortunate experience of having to go through customs at Detroit Metro. Detroit Metro is only the worst airport I have ever been in, and customs took a good 45 minutes!

And, yeah, the airport itself sucked major ass. Never setting foot in there again. I had to fly to Minneapolis from Detroit, and the pilot who flew us to Minneapolis was a dumbass.

Next time I fly will be in March, when I head off to New York City. The next time I am on a plane after that will be to Los Angeles.

I loooooove flying. It's so much more fast than car trips. I hate coach (but so does everybody else) but it's always worth it in the end.

I've been in a couple of planes that had pretty roomy coach section, so that was great.

Love it... I hope to start flying more in the coming year or two. I'd take a 2-hour plane ride over a whole day in a cramped car any day of the week.

After the 9-11 attacks I had a huge fear of flying but I flew at least twice in a plane since then. I didn't find it so bad.

Flying overseas is a different story. I have a morbid fear of that.

I havent been on an airplane, actually. I'm not really afraid of flying. I'll probably have to next year.

I've only flown once...My friend and I flew home from Florida by ourselves while my parents stayed for a few more days. I thought it was fun.

I hate flying. The concept of being so high up in the air in a machine that could malfunction at any second is not appealing to me. I've flown once, and it was a relatively smooth ride, but yeah. I won't do it unless it's absolutely necessary.

With all the security at the airports, I'd rather drive than fly. When you drive, you get to see the entire country as opposed to seeing clouds. Although I will only drive or take a bus, I do not have a fear of flying.

I only fly if forced. I've hated flying since I was born pretty much. One year I had a stuffed up nose or my sinuses were stuffed up I guess and I blew out my middle ear. That plane ride was HELL. I hate airplanes. And I double hate airplane toilets. I can't stand long flights...anything over an hour or 90 mins is too long.

My mom and dad want me to go to Hawaii with them. HELL TO THE NO. The only way they'll get me to fly over water is if I'm unconscious.

I love flying!! I wish I did it more. I haven't flown since 2003. I love the rush at the beginning of the flight, when the plane is going down the runway and it's going faster & faster then you finally lift off. I just hate when I'm on a crowded flight. It's great when the plane is only half full and you don't have anybody sitting next to you.

Funny thing......

Prior to my very first plane ride in August 2000, I was always under the impression I really would not be able to handle it and would have such a strong fear over it. I mean, I have always been fearful of heights. I can't even climb a ladder without shaking with fear.

Then I flew on a plane and realized it wasn't so bad. And that was only an hour flight from my city to Las Vegas. When I went to Europe and flew on the nine-hour flight across the ocean, I wasn't scared at all. I tolerated it quite well.

And to think I STILL have a fear of climbing a ladder that's only about seven feet tall. Funny how things happen....

BTW, yes, I love flying, so that was my vote on this poll.
