Cindy saved the day, in a way!

When the Bradys (and Alice) were about to embark on their camping trip, did you notice that they forgot to lock the door the first time they boarded the station wagon? When Cindy said she had to go back inside, after they came out, you could see the door being locked.

When I was growing up, I knew a family that literally NEVER locked their house up, even when they went on vacations! They figured if someone was determined to break into the house, they'd might end up having to replace a door or window, in addition to anything important that might have been stolen.

At the time I moved myself (1982), I'd known them for more than ten years...and they were never burglarized... crime was by no means a problem in my town, but even back then we were all pretty amazed about the whole thing... I'm sure they didn't publicize this fact heavilly, but there were certainly a number of people who knew about this, including some friends of the kids (2 girls and a boy)...This was in a suburban area, and back then, pretty much all of the neighbors knew each other by name, as did the kids...

(and no, I'm NOT giving out their address!)

I also knew a family who did that for the very same reason, but I always wondered if a burglar would even think to check the door. Maybe he would assume it was locked and break it or the window in anyway.

Most of the time I was growing up in Carmichael in the 70s we didn't lock our doors. Now my mother not only locks the doors, she has a burglar alarm. Times have changed!
