IS getting the rights to the original music on HAPPY DAYS dvd season 2 that important - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just have one question to asked, is getting the rights to the original music that important, what is paramount doing. i thought that when hd went into syndication they already owned or bought the rights to th original music

apparently when the original show aired they were licenced to use whatever music they used now some 30 years latter those licences have expired and whoever own the rights to the original music wants big bucks to relicence the music.more than likely its an ascap,or bmi thing but paramount just won't budge on the whole thing

hey doesn't paramount have the money to buy the rights the the original music from the company who owns it

but paramount doesn't want to spend the money because of the low sales of season one they don't want to put a package out that they feel they are not going to make ther return investment back.they are a big company that just sucks.

Although I desperately want Paramount to release the rest of the series on DVD, I certainly can understand their plight. If I was the president or CEO of Paramount, and I knew how much Season One made (or didn't make) and how much Season Two is projected to make (or lose), I would probably make the same decision not to release any future seasons for the good of the company. Paramount, like any other business, exists to make money - not lose it.

when the show was originally made, there was no such thing as dvds and the idea that they would release the show in season sets was unthinkable - the original music licensing agreements were for television only, they did NOT include the right to include that music in any other format so new licensing agreements have to be made.

the problem is the companies holding these music rights can pretty much name their price, and may not even want to license the music for dvd release at ANY price.

I would buy the second season set if they made subtle, well-chosen changes to the original music, provided that there is NO cut scenes, and the original music is DOCUMENTED in the release notes.

Hey i just want to say this one thing, if paramount decided to bring Happy Days season 2 on dvd, they beta first get the rights to the original music, and when that goes through they beta try to commerically advertized the dvd because if they don't which is why to me, season 1 did no sell well, we all might as well suffer by watching the rerun in syndication, by not seeing the series in its original formate, its killing me that other shows has been advertized through television such as the golden girls, mash, the dukes and other tv shows its no excuse why paramount shouldn't advertize there product especally when it comes to there on show, i think laverne an shirley was the only show from there libaury was the only show that was advertise,
they have one last shot at this bevause if not we all can forget about seeing other vd released wouldn't you all agree with me

hey does anybody think that paramount will make a new licensing agreements to the owners who own the rights to the music, they shuld since they spent tons of money on the new company, i guess they realize that fans are losing patience, they are on the hott seat, and they have got to be feeling the pressure,
