Default Happy Days season 2??????

Hi all -

I'm a new on this board so sorry if this has already been asked but where is Happy Days Season 2? It seems like I've been waiting forever for this to be released!! Are there still problems with getting the rights to certain songs or what? I'm confused..

Anyone hear of "Eight Is Enough" being released sometime in the future?

Thanks -

from what I read, sales of season 1 weren't big enough that Paramount didn't think season 2 would recoup its money. I personally think (and have said, anyone at Paramount listening?) that since a year has passed that Paramount should put season 2 on the backburner for now and concentrate on seasons 3 onward, since the music rights of the studio audience episodes combined aren't as huge as the ones in season one. I know it's not the ideal situation but right now it looks like it's a "season one only" or "season one, seasons 3 through????" until maybe down the road Paramount finally deems season 2 worth releasing.

It would cost them $2.4 million to clear the music for season two so they passed on it.

if you know that, do you know any ballpark around how season 1 sold? Was it really this catastrophic bomb on DVD, or did it just perform a little bit below Paramount's hopes?

I think at this point, Paramount could pick and choose songs for season 2. HD ran 11 seasons and was the #1 show on television at one point and launched many careers that lasted well beyond the shows end and some are still around (Ron Howard's still an A-list director, Henry Winkler's doing well on Out Of Practice, the late Pat Morita went onto the Karate Kid movies, Crystal Bernard had a huge hit with Wings and singing country music, Tom Bosley was on Murder She Wrote for many years and also did Father Dowling Mysteries, Billy Warlock can be seen every day on Days Of Our Lives and was one of the original Baywatch stars, Scott Baio had Charles In Charge, Ted McGinley began his run as the "show killer" right here, Tom Hanks even guested once, etc....... Hell, Paris Hilton's conception might be traced to the show (okay, that might be a reason to hold against it, lol), it's not like it was some niche show with a small following. I say they should keep the songs that REALLY had importance on the episodes, like the ones that Richie, Ralph and Potsie were performing in the groups, and songs that defined episodes, and replace some of the other songs. Don't go all cheapo like Sony did Dawson's Creek, but Paramount owes it to the fans of Happy Days to just go ahead and do what they can to get season 2 out, season 1 doesn't even contain 10% of the entire run of episodes.

This is a real shame, I bet that most of their regular consumers are gonna boycott now, especially diehard HD fans, or maybe even just casual fans, because they want to give PHE a message- They want EVERY EPISODE of every show they like on DVD!

Just release Happy Days and it's spin-offs and be done with it. Screw the music rights/licensing ... just do it!

Default that plan works for me

season 2 is a good season but its not worth jepardizing the rest of the series
releases season 3 and beyond should be released and put season 2 on the back burner untill so type of deal can be made

it sure would be nice if Paramount would tell us SOMETHING if they are actually planning to do anything more with Happy Days, this has gone way beyond frustrating.

If they have to substitute some of the music for season 2 (or any other seasons) then so be it, but it would be nice if could still somehow also release a "collector's edition" version with extras and all the music intact. I would pay pretty much whatever they wanted to charge for THAT.

**I have heard that Chubby Checker wants at least a million for any use of ANY of his songs - I don't think that that is worth it, and wouldn't care if they left off stuff from artists that are going to be THAT unreasonable.

What was the deal with Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy?

well from what Paramount is rumored to have actually said, they are also being held up due to music licensing negotiations and poor sales.

...but considering the lack of any real music in either of those shows, its hard to say what is really holding them up.

They just bought Dreamworks Pictures for $1 billion. If they can buy that then they can put out season 2 IMO

Why do they have so much trouble getting the music rights for season 2? If they skip 2 and do 3 through 11 won't they have to get the music rights for those too?
