Cool ILL Christmas episode (colorized edition) screen caps!!!

Here are some screen captures from the Columbia House ILL Christmas Special DVD:

First a few from DVD menu:

You can select to watch the episode in black & white or color.

When you select black & white, the menu changes to a black & white picture of Lucy in a Santa suit:

When you select color, the menu changes to a colorized picture of Lucy in a Santa suit:

You can also select ‘Production Notes’...

Here’s a screen cap of the production notes included on the DVD:

Now for screen caps of the actual episode...

Here’s a couple from the colorized opening of this episode:

And the rest of the episode:

And here’s one from the ending credits of the episode:

Compared to an original color picture taken on the set when this episode was being filmed...

...I think they did a pretty good job with the colorizing.

Hope you all enjoyed these!!

Was that some kind of special to get the colorized episode from Columbia House? Or can you just purchase it?

I've never seen this show in color, although I have a tape of the black-&-white
telecast when it was shown a few years ago. Yes, they did do a good job with
the colorization. Thanks for posting the pix.

No, the black & white/color options are on the main menu...those come up right when the DVD loads in the DVD player.

Thank you so much, Dizzy Arnizzy for posting these. I'm so glad that they are not only releasing the Christmas Special as part of the DVD set, but the colorized version as well. I used to have the colorized version on a VHS tape, but it broke. What about the opening credits of both the black and white and the colorized version the Christmas special. What do they look like? Would you be able to post pics of them, please? I'd love to see them. I wonder why they didn't colorize the "flashback" scenes, too? That would have been awesome.

How can anyone possibly say that the colorization was done well? Look at the photo that was taken of Lucy and Ricky when the episode was being filmed...the curtains are red, and the living room is painted in blue & white. In the colorized episode, the curtains have changed to royal blue, and the living room to brown & white...and Ricky's suit has changed color, too! Huh??????? The colorization doesn't seem very authentic to me!!!

Too many primary colors in the colorized version - everything is way too bright. I remember watching it when it aired 15 years ago, and everything looked better when I turned the color on my TV down a few notches.

From what I remember, the opening credits of this colorized episode remained in black and white, with the exception of a green piece of holly in the corner of the credits.

Colorization has come a long way since then - Columbia colorized some "Three Stooges" shorts recently, and the results are much better. Still, colorization has pretty much lost favor, so I don't think we'll see much more of it.

That's what I thought, too, TV Guy. All of the colors are way too bright. I wonder why they colorized it the way they did.

The opening credit's of the I Love Lucy Christmas Show were indeed in color. The satin was light purple and the heart was pink with the holly in the corner. I don't remember what color the lettering or the outline of the heart was. I wonder if that was the original color of that, too. The only reason why I say this is because on the old I Love Lucy Video Collection from CBS/FOX, they would show a montage of clips to the them song (vocal sung by Desi) followed by the "heart on satin" in color. The satin was a dark shade of pink, while the heart was a light shade of pink. The heart outline and letters were a dark red. I wonder which is the original color. How will we ever know, right? I wonder if the original opening credits were really black and white schemes, filmed in black and white, with no color at all.
