Post This Week's Batman TV Almanac (12/11-17/05)

DECEMBER 14, 1966

"The Cat's Meow"
(prod. #9737-Pt. 1) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on ABC as the 63rd episode of Batman.

Judy Strangis (1st girl at the concert) is the daughter of series production manager Sam Strangis. She would later appear on the 1970's classroom drama Room 222 (ABC, 1969-74) and several years after that as a "kid sidekick" herself when she would play Dynagirl in The Krofft Brothers' show, Electrawoman And Dynagirl.

We learn here that Commissioner James W. Gordon has grandchildren! In the comic books Commissioner Gordon doesn't have any grandchildren.

Harry Upps (Peter Leeds) is a parody of Hugh Downs.

Chad and Jeremy were good friends of casting director Michael McLean, who asked that they be worked into a script.

DECEMBER 15, 1966

"The Bat's Kow Tow"
(prod. #9737-Pt. 2) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on ABC as the 64th episode of Batman.

Maurice Dallimore (Sir Sterling Habits) played the British Delegate in the 1966 Batman movie and will later be seen as Watson in the third-season 3-parter "The Londinium Larcenies/The Foggiest Notion/The Bloody Tower" (#1711, Nov 23-30, Dec 07, 1967).

Steve Allen self-parodizes himself in his role of Allen Stevens. At the time this episode aired, Steve Allen was hosting the panel game show I've Got A Secret.

Jay Sebring (Mr. Oceanbring) "was a famous hairdresser," recalled Charles FitzSimons. "He had his own salon and was very expensive. And he was a friend of Bruce Lee's." Among the stylist's star clients were the late Bill Dozier, Stanley Ralph Ross, Milton Berle, Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra. At the time, a Sebring original ran $50 with subsequent trims at $26. Tragically, along with Sharon Tate, Sebring was one of the victims of Charles Manson and friends in 1969.

DECEMBER 14, 1967

"Catwoman's Dressed to Kill"
(prod. #1717) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on ABC as the 108th episode of Batman.

The first appearance of Eartha Kitt as Catwoman #3! She replaced Julie Newmar who at the time was filming her role of Hesh-Ke for the Columbia Picture Mackenna's Gold (which also featured Bat-guest villains Burgess Meredith and Eli Wallach). Envisioning Catwoman as black was unique to the television series, an experiment that hasn't been repeated until Halle Berry's turn ad The Felineous Femme Fatale in 2004's Catwoman.

Designer Rudi Gernreich later went on to design the wardrobe for the 1975-78 syndicated sci-fi show Space: 1999.

Footage of The Dynamic Duo crossing the street and racing through bustling crowds in Gotham City (filmed in downtown Los Angeles) is edited from the 1966 Batman movie.

In 1968, Eartha Kitt made several negative comments about the Vietnam War reportedly causing first lady Lady Bird Johnson to start crying. The subsequent negative publicity from the incident caused Miss Kitt to leave the country for several years.
