Sad Wonderful Life?

Tonight I saw the movie It's a Wonderful Life for the first time since I was 12 or 13. During the movie I kept wondering how much my life actually means. I came to the sad conclusion that if I had never been born it would have had little effect on the world around me. Maybe in somecases the people I know would probably have been better off if I had never been born.

Anyway, my question for everyone is, how much do you think your life really matters?

Even if it seems like you've never had an effect, you definitely have. At some point, you've done something - not necessarily obviously significant, but something. That something might not have been significant, but chances are it impacted someone else. That person then acted, at some point, somehow relative to what you did. That affected someone else. And at some point down the line, something SIGNIFICANT has to occur. All of this tracing back...to that little thing you did on October 4, 1997.

I just wrote out all of the above, so I think you can pretty much gather my feelings on significance.

You take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both and there you have...my opening statement.

Thank you.

LMAO, but no, seriously. I agree with everything Seth has said up there. Essentially, we all impact the world in ways that none of us can really comprehend. Every little interaction we have everyday, every little way that the world moves around us, every memory that every person ever has of us...I believe that things really would be drastically different, even if one person who lives in the world now actually wasn't born at all.

*shrugs* I say I made no impact whatsoever because I seem to be easily forgettable, but then someone comes in and tells me I'm wrong.

Like, say, for instance, I left here for good and didn't say a word. I know I'd say to myself that no one would care and no one would notice, but I guess at least one person would. I notice when people are gone. Even the people I don't like I notice when they're gone, because everyone who's a regular here in CC is a part of my life and the normalcy of it, so if someone leaves, it's a significant change to me. And maybe I'm that to someone else.

That was pretty non-sensical. Sorry.

I used to think that I didn't matter to anyone, and sometimes I felt like just knocking myself off, because no one would care.

How wrong I was. Through all my tough-crazy-induced-rehab-therapy years, my doctors, as well as a few special others, made me realize that life was worth living, because there's always a way out- no matter what. That way may be hard, you might not like it, you might lose a few people or things along the way, but never give up, because you will make it through. I value my life now. I'm so happy that I was caught in time before completely heading down the path of self-destruction. You only get one life... live it up.

You must be Broadway.

Nothing. Life is useless. There is no goal, there is no point. Deal with it. Get a beer.

In all my wallowing in self pity last night I forgot to mention that in 7th grade I saved a girl from drowning. I'm pretty sure her and her family were happy that I was there that day.
