Default More WB cuts

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Most of the staff of Spelling Television, home of the WB Network dramas "7th Heaven" and "Charmed," have been let go, sources said.

The layoffs affect about 25 people. Chairman and CEO Aaron Spelling, vice chairman E. Duke Vincent and president Jonathan Levin will continue with the company, which will become a pod within its Paramount Network TV parent.

"7th Heaven" will end its 10-year run in May, because it was getting too expensive to produce. "Charmed" is in its eighth season.

A Paramount TV spokeswoman declined comment Thursday.

also this article says......

A Paramount spokesman confirmed the Thursday firings of 10 to 12 of its 30 staffers Thursday, but refused to provide further details, Daily Variety reported Friday.

The home of Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place lost employees who deal with business and legal affairs, finance and casting, Variety said. Those jobs will be performed by staff at Paramount Network TV.

Spelling TV President Jonathan Levin was among the skeleton staff retained for development.

The WB recently announced the cancelation of Aaron Spelling's long-running family drama, 7th Heaven, and it's expected Charmed will soon be in the same boat, Variety said.

Brad Kern, Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent have had pay cuts this year on Charmed as well.

Charmed's had it's day, if it ends now it will still have had a successful and long run

Well, I guess it is not unexpected, but it looks like Charmed is at the end of its line. From E's "Watch With Kristin" :

"Now, the clincher, which will come as something of a kick in the gut to you fans. Inside sources confirm to me that Charmed and What I Like About You are very much "on the fence," and probably will be canceled after the current season wraps up in May."

Its hardly a surprise about What I Like About You, its the lowest rated show on the WB, and besides, Amanda wants to go to college next year, so she would probably end up quitting the show.

I'm more shocked that One Tree Hill is likely for cancellation, that's a show you'd be assuming is in it's ratings peak right now (it's only in season 3), especially considering the banner year it had it's sophomore year, as opposed to wondering if WB is going to keep or kill it.

I doubt OTH will be cancelled. A WB exec said it would probably be returning next year
