Default WOW! The DVD's Sure Look Better Than TV Land Versions!

Guys,

You know, some have criticisized Paramount's DVD restoration process for The Brady Bunch, but I watched some episodes on TV Land just by comparision and there is NO COMPARISON. The Slumber Party episode was on a few nights ago, and the episode's color and contrast are all faded and flushed out. You can see how faded the blue is in the Brady Squares, and throughout the episode compared to the DVD's!

Everyone should get a DVD player and get this series on DVD!!!! With a 3:30 AM CST slot for The Brady Bunch on TV Land, this is generally a sad sign that it will be on hiatus in a short time. (I don't know how long TV Land has the broadcast rights.) Even with a contract renewal, these prints are showing their age after 35 years.

I agree Jack...the prints for most of the shows look outstanding. You can really see the difference between the TV Land quality and the DVD quality in the Hawaii episodes. The image is so clear, it looks like it could have been filmed yesterday!

I know I am getting Season 4 for my birthday (a week from tomorrow). I can't wait! I am turning 28 and still watching the same show I did when I was 7.

The DVD's beat TVland (or any other broadcast) hands down. The strange thing is, especially on early episodes is that there are quality shifts.

The image will be quite sharp and crisp and then it goes into another scene that looks fuzzier and has less quality then the scene before and then back to sharp and crisp again.

It's as if they had to reassemble the shows from different sources, and some of those sources might've been 16mm film instead of 35mm.

I don't mind it at all you's just think they would have a consistant source for every episode.

I'm into the color much more than sharpness. I'm of the believe that color TV of the past was made to be more saturated and colorful to show off the still new concept of color TV.

Shows like Star Trek and The Brady Bunch should have color that leaps out at you on DVD and thank goodness, it does. The color is real strong without bleeding or blooming.

That's exactly what happened. For some moronic reason, Paramount edited the source material when they originally edited the show for syndication, and some of the 35 mm elements of the cut scenes have gotten lost. Fortunately, these fuzzy scenes are pretty infrequent, but they're especially noticeable in certain episodes, like "Father of the Year".

It's hard to believe now, but we watched a lot of shows in fuzzy 16 mm on UHF stations back in the 70s.

Well, at least the scenes are there. The Doris Day show DVD's are edited about a minute each. I bet the extra minute each episode shown on the network might have been chucked when it was edited for syndiscation
