Default June Cleaver: President of the Overprotective Mother Club!

Guys,

Name some things on the show that June did that showed she was an overprotective mother. Or talk in theory, given her personality of how she could have been an overprotective mother. I brought this one theory over from another board cuz I wanted you guys to see it:

In theory:

Beaver was in the 8th grade and about 15 when the series ended in 1963 and I'll bet she still wouldn't let him cross the street alone!!! hahahaha!!

1. Breaking into Beaver's diary.
2. Listening in on the boys phone calls.
3. Forcing Beaver to eat Brussels Sprouts.

I have to agree about this episode and this one is all I can think of at the time. Supposedly it was a much safer world back then with not having to keep your doors locked and it seems kids did stay alone at a younger age then. I thought June was going to far with the babysitter and this is another time that Ward should have outranked her as "man of the house" and tell her that they would not get a sitter for Beaver. JMO.

I thought it was kind of ridiculous that June insisted on a babysitter considering that earlier in the series they let Wally and Beaver babysit "Puddin" even though Wally was only 12 and Beaver was about 7 3/4!
Also, Beaver spend hours on end roaming Mayfield and just "messin around" without any supervision. Some Saturdays, Ward and June would go shopping or to a barbeque and let the boys stay home alone and go out anywhere they wanted.

Getting upset because she heard Wally was put into the lineup of his freshmen football game and he scored a touchdown; she lamented that the coach may want to start playing him more .

Going berserk when she heard that Beaver was scheduled to fight Sonny Cartwright, yelling about calling the police.

Pleading with Ward to not sign the papers for Wally to take driver's education to get his license, then opposing Wally's buying his own car.

Fearing that the motorscooter that Tooey bought for 75 cents was going to get running and Wally may try to drive it; in spite of the description that it had no wheels, no gear box, no.. [lots of parts].

Making Wally stay in his bed the 'rest of the weekend' after he came back from a boy scout camping trip and it rained them out, so he won't be sick for school Monday [tests have shown that cold or wet weather is not a factor in causing viral diseases such as cold or flu, but maybe she can't be faulted for believing that, as most people did, and many still do].

Wink Wedding Bells

In "Wally Sees Marriage", 16 year old Wally is dating classmate Evelyn Boothby. Evelyn has a sister a year or two older who's married. When the older sister and her husband invite Wally and Evelyn to dinner, June begins to worry that Wally have thoughts of an early marriage. Jeesh.

PS Evelyn Boothby is a "one shot gal" -- one of Wally's girlfriends who only appeared in a single LITB episode.
