Willona's Ex-husband Roger / Ray ???? I found it funny that ... - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

during the first episode of Thelma gets married, Willona is talking to Thelma and Michael abt her first husband Roger (remember, it was Ray when Ray visited and assaulted Thelma). Anyhow, Willona was talking abt "Roger" and showed a pic of him to Thelma and Thelma responded with "he looks good". Now, why would Thelma say this abt Willona's ex when he did what he did to her? Are the writers that stupid that they think we would forget that his name was Ray and that Thelma already had met him many times. When she was young and when he showed up for Willona's birthday.

Wow! I thought I was the only person who was thinking that. I did not think it was necessary for the writers to incorporate this. The writers think that the viewers forget easily don't they? They expected us to easily forget about Ray, just like they expected us to easily forget about Carl.

Hmmm, maybe Willona was married twice, one time to "Looking Gooood" Roger and another time to "that nasty bastard" Ray.

I thought that before, but Willona has mentioned only being married once.
As for why this was even mentioned in this episode, it seems it was just one of those fillers until Flo walked thru the door.

Yep, it seemed like filler, and the writers probably didn't remember Ray cause they were probably different writers from the 4th season.

Hmmm, maybe she did not want people to know that she has actually been married like five times; so, she lied and told everyone that she has only been married once.

I agree too, but don't you think that SOMEONE, even the actors would have said something...especially Bernnadette? I would've said, hey, that wasn't his name and I did an episode where he assaulted me???? duh

I think her ex husband had another name like Alvin or something. I think the actors forget after doing so many shows, it's hard to keep with names of people who are just mentioned and not seen. And even if they are seen you forget about that "person." I think it would be like meeting a stranger for the first time and then 2 yrs later you see that same person but you can't remember their name. Same thing with character that are mentioned on shows, you just forget.

Theres no excuse for mess ups like that. All they had to do was keep the scripts and look over them to make sure they stay accurate with all the characters. They dont mess up like that now on tv shows because they keep all these shows in their archives so they can always go back and view them so they can keep accurate with the characters and the storylines.

I doubt anyone would go back to old scripts that different writers had written, to find out the name of an ex husband. I doubt anyone one really cared, that's why they couldn't keep names straight.

yeah, I guess...they thought we (the audience) were such morons we would accept anything they threw our way...

And I guess they thought we (the audience) wouldn't have DVD's of the shows to watch and examine any inconsistancies at our leisure 20 yrs from then.
