How dumb was Jan for ASSUMING the engraving would be only 85 cents IN TOTAL???? How could she really think that????

I'm sure she only heard what she wanted to hear... even today, a lot of stores have customers like that!

but yeah, that was a silly assumption on Jan's part.

I wonder what it would cost today to have something like that engraved? What would the store have done with it had she never come back to get it? Find another family with the same names? 85 cents for all that would be an awfully good deal. One could have the entire Declaration of Independence inscribed for 85 cents.
