With the daughters(Too Close for Comfort, ABC) or without(The Ted Knight Show, SYNDICATED)? I liked the Ted Knight show version although I really missed looking at Sara. (Did anyone else notice the girl on That 70's Show looks very similar to her?) I think they could've done without that annoying maid, Lisa on the new version though. Does anyone know why Jackie and Sara left?
Thanks for your time. [This message has been edited by Madness (edited 05-29-2001).] |

ABC cancelled the show in 1983 after only three seasons, so there really weren't enough episodes for syndicated reruns. You generally need five seasons or more to get to 100 episodes, the minimum number required for a strong syndication package. So Ted Knight and his producers made 2 more seasons of the show for syndication, under the original title and with Jackie and Sara. They never intended to do more, they just wanted enough reruns to syndicate.
But the new episodes rated pretty well, so they decided to do another series, with the intention of making another 100 episodes and selling those separately in syndication. They knew they would need a fresh premise to get another five years worth of episodes, so the dropped the girls and came up with the newspaper idea. Unfortunately, Ted Knight passed away before they could start on a second season, so they rolled the episodes from the one season of "The Ted Knight Show" into the "Too Close for Comfort" syndication package. |

Sarah Rush was (and still is) an angel. She was sweet, funny, and one of the prettiest ladies in tv history. We still miss her.

They should have made a spinoff called "The Sarah Rush Show" focusing entirely on Lydia C. For ANY male, she was the show !

I like Too Close For Comfort better. I like the daughters.
I was disappointed that the daughters was not on Ted Knight. |

The Ted Knight show was very unfunny and Ted was very ill during the taping of that show.
