Default In what episode did Mother Jefferson pass away?

Hello all,

I wanted to know what episode did Mother Jefferson pass away? I know the actress died in the 4th season in early 1978, but I don't recall mention being made of the woman's passing during that season. When and how was it mentioned? I'm certain they didn't just ignore it.

Anyone know?

Ed

There was no episode in particular that dealt with Mother Jeffersons' death. In fact, it isn't until the 6th season that I recall them mentioning that Mother Jefferson had passed away. I'm not sure of any mention of her death occurred during the 5th season, but I know for sure that no episode ever dealt with it.

I thought her Death was mentioned in the beginning of season 5?

I never knew she died! So that's why you don't see her in the later episodes.

Did the woman who played her die in real life too?

I'm still on the hunt for a Jet Magazine from Jan to Feb of 1978 to see if the death is listed in there

Her death is mentioned in Jay Hammer's first episode. When George says something to the effect of, "Who cares that Tom's father died!" Louise says, "That's a terrible thing to say. Tom was very understanding when your mother passed." George says, "That was different, Mama and I were close."

She didn't look very well in the 3rd season when she was in a wheelchair.

That's when she should have no longer been on the show.

I do not agree with that. She still was able to act but it was obvious that she was quite ill. Where she was obviously ill and on her way out was the opening episode for season 4. It was sad to see her like that but she still was able to slam Louise.

Zara Cully brought a lot to that role and it is too bad a lot of people did not like the character of Mother Jefferson. She did bring out the worse in Louise.

She would have been fine in a smaller role, kind of like Ralph the Doorman
