One reason why I like the earlier episodes better...
Because they were more 70s style! It seems like the wardrobe and hair department slipped on their 70s fashion once they hit 1979. I always found it cool to look out for all the 70's references in the earlier episodes
 It's not a major letdown or anything, but definately something I miss.
