Default Observation on "Is There A Doctor in the House?" (a.k.a Measles episode)

Guys,

Notice how each kid when he/she was sick had individual food items prepared for them? That must have been hard on Carol and Alice! Six different lunches for six different kids. A tidbit that might be slightly unrealistic here:

Measles can are generally accompanied by a low-grade feaver. It is doubtful that the kids would be hungry or willing to eat the kind of food that was given to them. More than likely, Alice would have made soup and crackers, applesauce, easily digestable foods for all of the children.

no, the real question abt this episode is how were they able to get TWO DOCTORS TO MAKE HOUSECALLS?????? that's unrealistic. And why was a big deal made abt WHICH DOCTOR??? My God!! So what, let the girls remain with their pediatrician and let the boys stick with their pediatrician. Man, sometimes this family (or the writers) made mountains out of mole hills.

Agreed!

In fact, Barry Williams made this very observation in his Growing up Brady book.

But back to your original question abt the foods...yeah, how many times have you been sick and you could care less abt eating??? Just give me peace and quiet, some juice, the remote and I am fine.
And that's another thing my response would be: "You eat what I give you" or "You eat what there is...there's soup and crackers, that's good for you" Hell, I wouldn't be making six different lunches!!!

Guys,

Another observation on this episode: While the make-up department did a good job simulating the red skin on the kids to show measles, (especially Jan,) notice that the kids don't really act sick at all!!! The joke around, they play games. (all of them playing Monopoly in the girls room.) Probably the ONLY realistic thing was their impatience for things shown in this episode.

And what's up with the Monopoly game? Jan wins a County Hospital and Peter wins a yacht. One problem, those don't exist in Monopoly.

The name Monopoly is covered up with money. (Maybe they couldn't use the name for legal reasons.) But, as a sidenote in a Leave it to Beaver episode where Beaver plans to take stuff to go on a camping trip, Ward says, "Oh Beaver, I don't think you need to take your Monopoly game with you."

It's OK if you mention a product, but it's another thing entirely if you show it - then you need permission. Since they were already partially showing the board, they likely felt it was safer to make up some fake properties so that it was clearly a different game from Monopoly.

Sure they did. It was much rarer than it had been in earlier decades, but some still did. And Carol and Mike alluded to how rare it was to have two doctors who made house calls.

Our family doctor even made house calls into the 1970s.

You have it backwards. They covered up the Monopoly label because the show wasn't getting paid to advertise for the game company. You know when you can see that Coke can on CSI? CocaCola is paying the production company of that show huge bucks for product placement.

Something else about the male and female doctors: It was decided at the end of the episode that the family would simply use two doctors: the boys would have the male doctor, and the girls would have the female doctor. So then...where was the female doctor for the girls later in the series? In the following season, Cindy was visited by the doctor when she needed her tonsils out; and later on, in Season 4, the doctor visited Marcia when she claimed to be sick on her first day of high school - but these doctors were male. There was no complaining about the male doctor then.
