Just a friendly reminder:

Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer is on tonight at 8 on CBS. According to the commercial, it has been remastered and for the first time will be broadcast in High Definition.

in 1990 my parents taped it for me. I would have been two at the time. That is the version I watch every year. Brings back great memories seeing the same commercials every year. High Definition, hmm I might have to break my tradition and check it out.

Yes, I know that it is on tonight but I have the Vhs. I will watch it commercial free one of these days! I love it. I have been watching Rudolph since it first aired years and years ago! In fact I have a plush collection of the Rudolph characters (released by CVS Drug Store) under my tree at this moment!

I didn't watch on tv tonight because I have it on dvd and plan on watching it the closer we get to the holiday, but Rudolph is definitely one of my favorite Xmas cartoons.

I most definately watched this. All I could think about was that episode of Cheers where Frasier is explaining what a horrible message the story of Ruldolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer sent to children. They made fun of his abnormality until it became useful to them, and then they used him. lolll

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has been a popular character in several media. He originated in a 1939 story by Robert May and illustrated by Denver Gillen for Montgomery Ward Department Stores. They had been giving away coloring books every Christmas for years and decided to produce a promotional giveaway in-house.

Rudolph hit the big screen in 1944 in an animated cartoon produced by Max
Fleischer.

In 1947, May's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, set the story to
music; and cowboy star Gene Autry turned it into a hit. It sold two million
copies that year and has since sold more than 150 million.

Next came the DC comic book, published every December from 1952 to 1962
and briefly revived in 1972. It was written and drawn by Sheldon Mayer.

Rankin/Bass Productions did the best-known animated version, the one
narrated by Burl Ives as Sam the Snowman, which debuted on NBC Dec. 6,
1964. Rather than traditional cel animation, they used a stop-motion
technique with puppets ("Animagic" they called it). Billie Mae Richards was
Rudolph's voice.

Rudolph's first feature-length movie was released to video Oct. 16, 1998 and
boasted an all-star cast, including the voices of Whoopi Goldberg, Bob New
hart and John Goodman (as Santa).
