Default Has anybody ever eaten fruit cake?

I got this catalog in the mail from a company called The Swiss Colony. For those not familiar with them, they sell sausage & cheese products, I guess kind of like Hickory Farms. They also sell chocolates and rather rich desserts. One of the things in the catalog was fruit cake. I hear all the time of jokes about fruit cakes during the holiday season. It's like if you get a fruit cake, you'll supposed to 'regift' it and give the same fruit cake to somebody else the next year!!

I've never had any but in the catalog it says the ingredients are pineapple chunks, cherries, pecans, raisins, & walnuts. If you like all those things, how bad can it be?

Has anybody had mincemeat pie, too? I could've sworn I had it when I was a kid and liked it but I just looked up the recipe for it, and it has beef, apples, currants, stuff like that. Beef & apples? I'm not sure about the combination!!

Yes, I've eaten fruitcake AND mince meat pie. Well, the latter was more like Mexican mince meat pastries called "empanadas de carne." VERY tasty!!

I don't get why people hate fruitcake sooooo much. It's really not THAT bad. Come on. It's only food ingredients. It's not like it's made out of dog tails, mothballs, etc... Could this be more like a psycho-symatic thing where just hearing how "gross" it is influences others' thoughts? I think part of is that. Sorry.... All this talk about "social influence" is what we've been talking about ALL semester long in my Social-Psychology class.

My mom used to make it and sell it, and it looked/smelled like a mutilated pile of animal entrails. Never tried it.

There are only 20 fruitcakes in existence in the entire world. They just keep getting re-gifted over and over again.

Did you know that not only are there only twenty fruitcakes in existence, but they've been circulating around the world, moving around every Christmas season for the past four hundred years? If one must eat one of them, avoid the red and green things in these so-called "fruit" cakes!

fresh fruitcake isnt bad (my grandma used to make it) - but when it gets old or stale it is HORRIBLE.

I don't mind mincemeat pies either, my mom used to make 'em - she made worse stuff too. Now that I think about it, my grandma used to make Haggis - so the fruitcake was a TREAT.

Oh yuck!! I've never had any desire to try Haggis. If I ever went to Scotland, and the hostess served it for dinner, I definitely would offend her by not eating it. Because you know in some places, you do not turn down what the hostess makes, not matter what it is.

I've had fruitcake, of course. I'm not a fan... is anyone? Mincemeat I really enjoy, but I haven't had in simply forever!
