They added Chachi instead. They WERE going to have Spike (Danny Butch) play Chachi, but they felt people already knew him as Spike.

Wow, then you all are REALLY going to hate me for not being a Spike fan either. I tended to feel he was a Fonzie wannabe, but could never fully pull it off. I tend not to be a fan of those who try to hard to be someone else instead of themselves. I just felt that Spike was Fonzie on the outside, but he didn't have the charisma, charm, or style of Fonzie. I think had we seen what he had grown up like, I may have had more respect for him.

Remember Bobby? (I think that was his name) Who was also trying to be like Fonzie? Now I think HE pulled off a great Fonzie impersonation! Basically, he was enamored by Fonzie and copied after him while still maintaining his own identity.

Why didn't the show just bring Spike back rather than creating a "Chachi" character at all? Chachi was a cutie, but I can't say that I ever thought he was "cool." I feel Chachi was closer at replacing Richie than he ever could have been at being like Fonzie. I think there are some really great episodes in the last season where Chachi and Fonzie have some great bonding moments that rank up there with Fonzie's and Richie's.

True, True.......... I like Chachi because he was sweet like Richie. He was no Fonzie wannabe.

*LOL* Bobby was adorable!! I absolutely loved him! The way he called the Fonz "Champ" and was always drawing pictures of him! I'm not saying Chachi replaced Richie or ever could, but he came closest at filling the void in a few of the last season episodes (especially the ones where he and Joanie were split up and he seemed more like a "brother figure" than a boyfriend. I think Chachi and Joanie had a better brother/sister relationship than a bf/gf or husband/wife.) Chachi was a puny, geeky boy who tried to be tough but just turned out funny. I always thought it was funny when Richie tried to be tough, because there was not a tough-guy bone in his body (until after he came home from the army).
