Sad What was the reason Bobby left Taxi?

Why did Bobby leave Taxi? Was he forced to leave or did he decide he didn't want to continue doing the role of Bobby? I thought his was a good character and had a lot of funny lines written for him. I haven't seen him since in movies or television so I thought he might have given up acting for some reason.

I think Jeff Conaway (Bobby) left to do theatrical movies and/or theatre work.

It was indeed too bad that Jeff Conaway left the show. He has been working steadily in several movies and TV shows since leaving Taxi, but nothing outstanding (my favorite of his movies is still Grease). Personally I think his most "famous" (and longest running) role since Taxi is as Zack Allen on Babylon 5. But of course I prefer Bobby!

My memory of Jeff Conaway's explanation of the reason he left the show is that his manager convinced him that leaving the show was in his best interest, as it would allow him to pursue movie roles fulltime, and keep him from getting typecast as Bobby. I believe he has also stated that he regrets having left the show, and wishes he had stayed until the end of the run.

I think a similar thing happened when Shelly Long decided to leave Cheers.

Well Cab 804, I hope Mr. Conaway fired his agent for advising him to leave "Taxi."

What a stupid decision that was.
