Friends,
I taped this movie for later review, which I'd planned to post here, or so I thought. I programmed my VCR to record at the wrong time, apparently, so I only got half the movie or so ."Snow Wonder" centered around the relationships and problems of various characters (who basically have nothing to do with each other) in a huge snowstorm that engulfs the world near Christmas time (I know, "get real!"). From what I did see, the best performance looked to be given by Cameryn Manheim, which is of course not surprising. Cameryn has consistently gave star-quality work in everything I've ever seen her in. She played Bev, a bitter, sad individual who wanted to get as far away from the love and warmth of the holidays as possible. Frankly, the movie was starting to make me wonder if it was any good until Cameryn showed up and gave pure gold in an emotional scene with a priest in a church. However, I did see Mary, and sort of examined her character, Aunt Lula. Again, she was nothing like our Laura (surprise!), but rather eccentric and outgoing. Aunt Lula was quite a socialite in her younger years, according to the duologue she had with her nephew, Luke, whom she came to visit (all of 6 miles!) for the holidays. Luke was sure he could make the family's holiday dinner, but was afraid to try because his mother, Lula's sister, who was on her way but stuck in traffic, was sure he'd foul it up. Aunt Lula convinced him that with a drink, having entered an "altered state," he could get it done. As Luke prepared dinner, Aunt Lula regaled him with stories of her romantic/sexual exploits with famous actors, and politicians. The more conservative among us might have been downright disappointed. I should really stop here because I don't know anything about how the show ended for these characters, but I'll admit I'm very disappointed. I'd love to know how things worked out for Bev! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0488057/ Did anyone else see "Snow Wonder"? If so, what did you think? Steve |
