Default What was up with Thelma and getting a job?

In the episode when JJ works with his "friends" in the gambling business, he does it so that Thelma won't have to work. Anytime we saw Thelma, she wasn't studying. She was just reading a magazine or doing nothing. What was wrong with her working part-time? It's not like she had to work in the evening. There are lots of girls her age who go to school, college and have a part -time job, even just a few hours after school. It was obvious she could get a job, she had been offered before.

She did have a Off-Screen job as a baby Sitter but I think that was it

That is really dumb. Why did she feel she had to quit school all together? The way the writers made it seem like the character of Thelma EITHER had to work OR go to school, like she couldn't do both.

Even Michael had a job, working with Jam...eh...Carl. He turned out not to believe in God, but at least he was working.

That was another off-screen job Thelma had. They mentioned a couple of times that she worked at Willona's Boutique.

Oh yeah. That just goes to show you how minor of a character she was on the show-lol They would have never given J.J or Michael a Off screen job. But then again, James jobs were all off screen-lol
