Thumbs down Please, please, no more divas!

They've homengenized popular music, they've recorded overblown ballads, they've marketed and overexposed themselves to the point where other forms of music ( :cough cough:, rock and roll, :cough cough: ) are disappearing, they've broguht their enormous egos to the fore, and they've popularized producers with names like "Jimmy Jam!"

Please. . .

NO MORE DIVAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting NOW!

If you didn't know, "Jimmy Jam" was an accomplished and well known musician before any so called diva popularized his name. And if rock and roll is disappearing, maybe it's rock and roll to blame. Certainly not these singers overexposing themselves. You want to blame it on the marketing of these singers, fine. That's the business part of music business. Why not just enjoy the music you enjoy and allow those singers to be there for the potential audiences who'll find them entertaining?

God, I'm glad I have a formidable record collection!

I'm sorry, "Jimmy Jam" is a dumb stage name. To be fair, so is "Captain Beefheart." Ditto "Bono" and "The Edge." The Edge?

Exactly! Not Aretha Franklin, I don't even know how she got to be known as a diva!

The word "Diva" used to mean something "great"...now, it's given to anybody and any one who supposedly sings. As for the Jimmy Jam reference, I have no idea what that has to do with "Divas" but people like JHO (Jennifer Lopez), and all those who think they can sing, but couldn't hold a note if their life depended on it, have been giving the word "Diva" a bad name.

I could care less what one calls themselves, if they have talent, a skill, etc. than, I don't care what name, stage name or nickname they go by. Someone who tries to use a crazy ass stage name with nothing behind them in the talent department, needs to get their ass off the stage, outta the entertainment biz and leave the work to real DIVAS.

As for Rock and Roll, blame the downhill on that with those stupid hair bands of the 80's those bands were nothing but LOOK AT MY HAIR, not my music.

Why would rock and roll be disappearing? Is it the Curse of Fred Durst???

I'd blame it on him more than I would the divas.

Well, you can't blame Frnaz Ferdinand or My Chemical Romance. These groups are revitalizing rock radio in Britain. In America, eh, not so much!

him and Terry Lewis produced Janet Jackson's "Control" and "Rythm Nation" and MANY MANY MORE ARTISTS. They were THEE producers of the 80's. Here are some of their work:

1983: "Just Be Good To Me" - S.O.S. Band
1986: "The Pleasure Principle" - Janet Jackson
1986: "Nasty" - Janet Jackson
1986: "What Have You Done For Me Lately" - Janet Jackson
1986: "Control" - Janet Jackson
1987: "Let's Wait Awhile" - Janet Jackson
1988: "If It Isn't Love" - New Edition (covered by Boyz II Men in 1997)
1988: "Can You Stand the Rain" - New Edition
1989: "Rhythm Nation" - Janet Jackson
1990: "Escapade" - Janet Jackson
1993: "That's The Way Love Goes" - Janet Jackson
1993: "Again" - Janet Jackson
1994: "On Bended Knee" - Boyz II Men
1995: "Scream" - Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson
1995: "Runaway - Janet Jackson
1997: "HIStory - Michael Jackson
1997: "4 Seasons of Loneliness" - Boyz II Men
1997: "Go Deep" - Janet Jackson
1998: "I Get Lonely" - Janet Jackson
1999: "Thank God I Found You" - Mariah Carey featuring Joe and 98 Degrees
1999: "I'm Good At Being Bad" - TLC
1999: "Addicted To You" - Utada Hikaru
2000: "Wait & See ~Risk~" - Utada Hikaru
2000: "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)" - Mariah Carey
2000: "Free" - Mya
2000: "Doesn't Really Matter" - Janet Jackson"
2001: "All For You" - Janet Jackson
2001: "Someone To Call My Lover" - Janet Jackson
2001: "U Remind Me" - Usher
2002: "No More Drama" - Mary J Blige
2002: "Here I Am" - Bryan Adams
2004: "Harajuku Girls" - Gwen Stefani
2004: "Bad Girl" - Usher
2004: "Truth Hurts" - Usher
2004: "Simple Things" - Usher

Wow, this is just some of their work, pretty good I think for a guy named Jimmy Jam and his ordinary named partner Terry Lewis. They also have a grammy and other numerous awards.

Don't blame the Divas, do check the Billboard charts first. It's HIP HOP taking over now!

actually, it was only a matter of months ago that Blender magazine wrote an article about how Limp Bizkit (Fred Durst's band) hurt rock radio worse than ANY non-rock type of music. You cannot blame divas, dance-pop or hip hop for the decline of rock radio, it's not like your rock stations starting playing Mariah Carey and Ace Of Base and that made rock fans turn the radio off in droves. It was the likes of Fred Durst and Kid Rock that put ROCK radio on life support.
