Default ABC announces Monday Night lineup beginning in January

ABC ANNOUNCES POST-FOOTBALL MONDAY NIGHT LINEUP,
TO BEGIN MONDAY, JANUARY 9

“Emily’s Reasons Why Not” and “Jake in Progress” Air Back to Back from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET

“The Bachelor” Returns at 10:00 p.m., ET

Monday Night Hit “Wife Swap” Remains Mondays at 8:00 p.m., ET

The ABC Television Network has announced its post-football Monday night lineup, scheduled as of January 9: “Wife Swap,” “Emily’s Reasons Why Not,” “Jake in Progress” and “The Bachelor.”

“Wife Swap” will air from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET. Each week, two families with very different values are chosen to take part in a two-week challenge in which the wives from these two families exchange husbands, children and lives (but not bedrooms) to discover what it’s like to live a very different woman’s life. It’s a mind-blowing experiment that often ends up changing lives forever. Currently “Wife Swap” ranks second in its time period among Adults 18-34 (2.5/8), while ranking No. 1 among its core audience of Women 18-34 (3.3/10). “Wife Swap” has greatly improved the time period for ABC, boosting the Net’s delivery by 2.8 million viewers (7.6 million vs. 4.8 million) and by 81% in Adults 18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 1.6/5). “Wife Swap” is ABC’s highest-rated program to be teamed with “Monday Night Football” in 4 years - since 2001. It is an RDF Media production, created by Stephen Lambert and executive-produced by Lambert and Jenny Crowther of RDF Media (“Faking It” and “Junkyard Wars”) and Michael Davies of Diplomatic (“Who Wants to be a Millionaire”). Wendy Roth is co-executive producer.

From 9:00-9:30 p.m., ET, “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” will explore the world of Emily Sanders (Heather Graham). She’s young, single, has terrific friends and a great job in publishing. In fact, she’s got the hottest selling book in town. Unfortunately she’s just closed the chapter on her relationship with the roguishly handsome, two-timing author. Determined now to make better choices, Emily employs a “Reasons Why Not” list-making system designed to serve as an internal warning on when it’s time to cut bait and move on. The “Reasons” will not only guide her in matters of love, but life in general. And if that fails her, best friends Reilly and Josh never do. “Emily’s Reasons Why Not,” which is based on the novel by Carrie Gerlach, is produced by Pariah in association with Sony Pictures Television. Gavin Polone, Emily Kapnek and Vivian Cannon are executive producers.

From 9:30-10:00 p.m., ET, John Stamos returns in “Jake in Progress,” a fast-paced comedy that follows New York publicist Jake (John Stamos) and his friends as they juggle life, love and commitment. This season Jake’s former fiancée, Annie (Charlotte Ross), is unexpectedly back on the scene, and Jake gives settling down some serious thought (even though she’s engaged to someone else). Best pal Adrian (Ian Gomez) offers advice from a married guy’s POV. There’s a new guy in town when Mark (Dondre Whitfield), Jake and Adrian’s college buddy, moves back. A former tennis pro and recently divorced, Mark is looking for some guidance as he re-enters the social scene (even though Jake is thinking of retiring from the game). Meanwhile, Naomi (Wendie Malick) embraces late-in-life motherhood as only she can, and Patrick (Rick Hoffman) leaves performance art behind for a steady gig running a bakery. Jeff Greenstein, Austin Winsberg, Peter Traugott and Bob Kushell are executive producers of the series, from Brad Grey Television Productions in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television.

From 10:00-11:00 p.m., ET, the original relationship show that is purely about the search for love, “The Bachelor,” returns with an edition currently being shot in the world’s most romantic city -- Paris, France. The new bachelor has yet to be announced, but he’s a sexy Southerner who’s serious about finding the love of his life. Maybe everything your mother ever said about “a nice doctor” is true. The series will run for eight weeks. Hosted by Chris Harrison, “The Bachelor” is produced by Next Entertainment in association with Telepictures Productions. Mike Fleiss (“High School Reunion”) is executive producer. Lisa Levenson and David Bohnert are co-executive producers.

I thought ABC would go aggressive because they don't have football next year.

I'm guessing What About Brian? will go elsewhere... but where is the question.

Sundays-Nope(I don't think Grey's would go on hiatus)
Mondays-Well Nope
Tuesdays-Probably Not(Boston Legal is doing well enough)
Wednesdays-If Invasion keeps losing viewers, maybe there
Thursdays-Would they dare?
Fridays-Probably Not
Saturdays-

The Bachelor only runs 8 weeks, so maybe a new show to that slot in March???

I still can't believe they are leading off with Wife Swap... that show is doing terrible(the Fast Nationals are inflated because the West Coast sees football).

While fast nationals are inflated, the final numbers are decent for that show.

7.6 million -- on par with According to Jim and just below what George Lopez does.

It is actually doing alot better. Of course, it does have that nice NFL football lead-in on the west coast. Still, the show is holding alot more viewers than The Benefactor did last season.

There's been talk of ABC moving Grey's Anatomy to the night next season. It's really holding its own on Sundays and it on the verge of breaking out like "DH" and "Lost" did. Well, maybe not that big, but still. It does make alot of sense because it would give ABC is beachhead on a night where no series but CSI Miami is really a ratings standout, and the DH lead-out can be used to launch another new series. So far ABC has a 2/2 record for new series in that timeslot, compared to the 0/3 after "Lost" (including The Bachelor and Alias, which didn't capitalize on their huge lead-in).

What ABC really needs, though, is a big sitcom. It's got the dramas, reality is not really a factor anymore (with the exception of Dancing), but now it's time to focus on the other side. It the network could get a sitcom to consistently draw 12-13 million viewers to lead-off Wednesday and Tuesday nights, ABC could give CBS a serious challenge for top spot. Until then, CBS reigns supreme.

For next season I'd move Grey's Anatomy to Tuesdays at 10. I think it could dethrone Law & Order: SVU. Commander in Chief and Boston Legal would work for them Mondays 9-11pm--probably the same numbers as they get Tuesdays, too. ABC should go back to four comedies on Tuesdays, because I think their mid-season comedy Crumbs is going to be something special--the pilot is so funny. The question is if ABC can find a show that could hold similar or close to what Grey does after DH.

Talking

I'll stick with CBS on Mondays, provided they keep "How I met Your Mother",
"Two and a Half Men" and "Out of Practice"- especially "How I met Your Mother"

I was actually thinking about Grey's Anatomy on Monday at 10 after the Super Bowl(all during it's post-Super Bowl slot promote it, promote it, promote it).

But Tuesday at 10 would work as well.

They are defintely going to need to move some established shows to Mondays next Fall if they want to have any chance at being competitive.

Where do you think the Dancing With the Stars Results show is going to be?

I think next year they should anchor each night with a good high rated drama..

Sunday = Desperate Housewives
Monday = Boston Legal
Tuesday = Grey's Anatomy
Wednesday = Lost
Thursday = Commander In Chief
Friday = What About Brian? (We don't know if it will be highly rated or not yet but I think it would work if they bring back TGIF if not maybe Alias if it's doesn't get canned)
Saturday = Nothing (If they get something that people will like enough to stay in and watch on saturdays they could most likely win this night but Its a long shot)

I don't expect most of this to happen but i think they should try something like this...
