underrated

this show is so underrated. i mean, is this show a classic? is it in the top 100 sitcoms of all time? i believe it's a true classic, and defintly deserves a spot in the top 100. even the nbc tv movie "behind the camera" made the show seem like a failure of a show. what do you think?

Classic my A$$, this show should have been on Saturdays mornings with all the other cartoons because you would have the sense of humor of a 4 year old to find this show funny.

I agree with Solomon. Its kiddy humor. I mean I like Gilligan and everything but Gilligan is more like family humor where Mork and Mindy is more kid humor. Mork and Mindy is alright its just plain silly.

i disagree that it is simply "kiddy humor" - i mean, yes Robin Williams' cute & funny sounds and voices appealed to kids and can be grating to adults, but a lot of the subtext is definately geared towards adults - it might just be going by too quick to notice a lot of it

Actually, Hanna-Barbera did produce an animated version of MORK & MINDY.
Robin Williams, Pam Dawber and Conrad Janis all reprised their prime-time roles.
(And, yes, it was telecast on ABC on Saturday mornings.) One new twist:
Mork drove a car that was shaped like an egg! (No, I didn't make that up.)

that's not the point if it's a kiddy show or sitcom, the point is that the show is underrated, is it in the top 10 or 100 sitcoms? i believe it's unrrated because when ever people talk about sitcoms, surely shows like three's company,and happy days are said, but never mork and mindy. it's so underrated that the tv themes cd, doesn't even have the theme song on it, but they put friggin sesame street? what the hell?

Hey, I liked MORK & MINDY. I watched it every week (even the dismal second
season; thank goodness they came to their senses and changed the show back
to its original concept by the third season). In fact, their last season was--in
some respects--their best. It was great fun seeing Robin Williams and his idol
Jonathan Winters improvising together. Classic stuff. You can't script stuff that
funny. P.S. For what it's worth: SESAME STREET (which I've never watched)
was on for like 30 years; MORK & MINDY was on for four seasons. But I
don't think it's fair to compare a sit-com and a children's show; it's like
apples and oranges, y'know.

I beg to differ ("I'm a differ begger" to quote Snagglepuss). The prime-time
series MORK & MINDY was a situation comedy. The Saturday morning series
Hanna-Barbera's MORK & MINDY was a cartoon (and cartoons are intended for
all ages, not just kids). SESAME STREET is a children's program, aimed
specifically at pre-school children. They're three different genres.

Here are the Nielsen ratings (per Tim Brooks & Earle Marsh's COMPLETE DIRECTORY TO PRIME TIME NETWORK & CABLE TV SHOWS):

It held the No. 3 spot with a 28.6 share in its first season (1978-1979).
It slipped to the No. 27 spot with a 20.2 share in its second season (after
they unwisely tampered with the format; 1979-1980).
Regrettably, the show never returned to the Top 30 after that.

i don't mean from back then, i mean today, is it reconized as a classic sitcom or a favorite from 1978?
