Default TVAdam Salutes "Wings"

I got out my tapes the other day. I was watching episodes from the second season (getting myself ready for February) and I realized something. This show is perfect. The actors are great, the stories are great, it can have serious moments without becoming "A Very Special Episode". The cast had great chemistry. There's no weak link. Although some may try to say Alex, Casey and/or Budd. But I like them all.

I knew this all along, but I just wanted to post it anyways. It doesn't hurt to praise "Wings" as much as possible.

Here's to the creators, writers and everyone involved in bringing "Wings" to our television sets. As escpecially the cast:

Tim Daly, Steven Weber, Crystal Bernard, Thomas Haden Church, David Schramm, Rebecca Schull, Tony Shalhoub, Farrah Forke, Amy Yasbeck and even Brian Haley!

Yep, still stuns me at the show's underground following. It's not too nice (Roy), not too raunchy (Lowell), good lookin' cast, great typical romance between the two leads. Don't know what else tv viewers want.

I've had experiences like that myself.....Times when I've been away from "WINGS" for a while, then I'll pop in some videos and watch a few episodes. When I do, I'm constantly amazed at how GOOD that show was!

The cast, the writing....everything worked so beautifully......

....and even a "bad" "Wings" episode is STILL better than most shows that are on TV!

Hello. I've lurked here for the past few days and just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed reading the threads.

It's been years since I last watched "Wings". I live in Singapore and caught many "Wings" episodes when they were shown on Malaysian TV in the late 90s. Initially I started watching the show because I am a big Tim Daly fan (can't understand why "Eyes" has been cancelled) but became a fan of the show because of the great ensemble acting and of course, the excellent writing. Favourite episodes - two for starters: "Sports and Leisure", a classic IMHO, and "The Puppetmaster".

Is "Wings" really going to be on DVD?

First of all, welcome! Always nice to see more "Wings" fans! I love "Sports and Leisure" and "Puppetmaster" too! As for the DVD's, it appears they are coming. Usually when Pav and TVshowsondvd.com report something like this, it ends up happening. I know I'll def. be getting this one as soon as it comes out, hehe.

You all pretty much covered the great aspects of the show, but I'd like to just come in here and say my bit.

This might sound crazy or even mental but Wings is a show I can turn to and watch when my life seems to be in the dumper. No matter how bad my day has been or what's going on in my life I can come home and put one of my tapes in the VCR and watch it, and it still manages to at least make me crack a smile....

That proves right there that Wings is definitely a show of a lifetime...no matter how many times I watch it I continue to laugh..and I can't say that about shows that are on now.

It sure would be nice to have a reunion show...but I better count my blessings as it is!

Ta Ta,
Jess

I know exactly what you're saying. A couple years ago, when I'd come home from work I sit down and watch my "Wings" tapes. It always put me in a good mood. The show has that effect on people.

I like the relaxed, heart-warming feeling I get from watching Wings. The humor isn't raunchy or gross-out, like so much of the stuff that passes for comedy nowadays. While the gang may have their disagreements, they still get along in a civilized manner, unlike some shows where the characters do nothing but bitch and scream at each other and treat other people around them like dirt. I think Wings ranks right up there with MASH, Cheers, and The Cosby Show on the list of classic comedy.

Thanks for the welcome, Kristen.

Was "Wings" ever nominated for any Emmy (acting/writing)?

I know Kelsey Grammar and Tyne Daly were nominated for their guest shots, they may have even won. But aside from those two measley ones over 8 seasons, nothing for writing, directing, acting. Amazing.
