Default Honest opinion on the quality of the show

Hi,

I'm a huge KOQ fan but due to school and work I wasn't always able to watch it when it was on in primetime so I had to catch repeats. I stopped watching it around the fourth season and only watch the occasional repeat on TV.

I have the first four seasons on DVD but I was wondering if people could give their honest opinions of when the show began to change a bit and perhaps even go down in quality. I've seen some episodes from the 6, 7 and 8 seasons and noticed a definite change in the quality of the series and there does seem to be a slight drop in quality. Many times, it just doesn't have that same old feel to it.

So basically, the newer seasons will be coming soon on DVD and I just want people's opinions on the 5, 6, 7 and 8 seasons and whether or not they're worth buying.

Thanks for any help,
MZ

I would recommend S5 and probably 6 too as decent seasons but the last two are hit and miss, at the best of times. They may not all be bad but they're not the kind of thing you'd want to watch repeatedly either. IMO, natch.

There's an obvious drop in quality, but I still love it. Season 6 is definitely my least favorite season.

I really love the show. I can't see a change in quality but I guess it's because I love the show and I get so many laughs outta that show. I especially love Arthur. I also love the fact that Leah didn't go on a crash diet and get ugly skinny. She looks great with her extra weight. That's what happens in real life.

Arthur is definitely one character who has never changed. He is still the same highly random, hysterical guy he always was.

If it were me, I would get seasons 1-5, and leave the rest alone. The show JTS in my opinion in S6, and has been, for the most part, quite bad. A few good episodes, but the rest are just not up to the early quality of the show.

I definately agree with what other people are noticing. Even though the shows is still funny, its not as hilarious as it once was. I don't know if its just me, but some of the stuff especially in Season 7 and a little bit in this current season just seemed generic and too obvious. I disagree however with those who say that Season 6 was when it really started to change for the worse, because that was one of my favorite seasons of the show and had some good episodes like the belly hair episode, upstairs & downstairs wife, the shuffleboard one etc.

I think season 7 hurt the show a bit. Some of the stuff didn't seem unique enough.

I'm a bit surprised at that too because I think S6 is one of the 'good' seasons. I like those episodes you mentioned as well as the one where Carrie designed cell phone covers, lol.

At the time when season 6 was airing, it seemed like most of the board hated it, and I was one of the few who actually liked it. While I did like a number of episodes in that season, that is when they really first dropped the ball. It seemed as if the chemistry was lost at times.

I wasn't crazy about last season, but this season is just horrible. There was only one funny episode so far this season - can't remember off the top of my head, but I think it was 2 weeks ago.

The majority of episodes however were decent, the only ones off the top of my head that I didn't laugh at as much are the one when Doug is fantasizing about all these women while he's in the hospital having an operation as well as the one where Deacon finds a hot flight attendant and things are going fine until Kelly wants to reconcile with him. Those are the two that stick out the most.

Unfortunately, it seems that Leah and Kevin don't get along too well anymore since the whole pay raise situation last year. I'm sure Leah was pissed when Kevin got a hefty raise, and CBS almost refused to re-sign her when she wanted the same. Same old Hollywood money problems I guess.

One things for sure, Their lack of chemistry on screen and scenes together is definately hurting the show in my opinion.

well i knew that post would ignite the board!!I will try to be the voice of reason.I said try.
I look at it like this. The KOQ is my favorite show of all-time!Period!I love the characters, love the writing and love the acting(cast)!I guess when you identify so closely with something, maybe you don't notice "a drop in quality","Leah gaining weight".Sometimes it takes me watching certain eps.a few times before some of the jokes, little nuances,etc..really start to sink in.
Let me use this example. When you hear a new song for the first time sometimes it takes a while to "grow" on you. Now,when you hear a new song by your FAVORITE artist, you are usually a bit more forgiving if it isn't the best song you ever heard by said artist.I'll say this.Gloria Estefan is MY favorite artist.I don't like opera. If Gloria Estefan did an opera cd,I would love it just because it's her.I love her voice.
Bottom line--some of us like the show a little, some alot, and others fall in between.Nobody is right or wrong. It just amazes me that some of us don't like the current season,as I think it has been one of the best!!Especially taking into account that this show is in it's EIGHTH season!!That is loooong for a sitcom, especially these days.
It's just my opinion and I truly enjoy reading all of yours.this board is fantastic!!!Thank you all for reading this.I'll get down off my now.

I don't notice a lack of chemistry at all. Yeah, I'm sure Leah wasn't too pleased when she wasn't being given a raise, but that was settled. She still highly compliments Kevin in some of the letters (even recent) on her site. If there were major problems between the two, I doubt she would go out of her way to mention him. I agree with jpcanes that this has been a great season. There were a couple episodes towards the beginning that perhaps weren't the best, but in my opinion, the majority have been great. It's been nice not to see many (really none) negative comments about the show these days on the board. There were some complaints here early in the season that people were giving up on the show...but oh well, that's their loss!
