When this show first debuted on Australian television(under the name "Our Generation," for marketing purposes?), it struck me as an interesting, family-friendly drama. I watched every episode i could, enthralled by this amazing dramatization of the most exciting era in human history. But, after ten weeks, the show was pulled back into later and later time slots, until killed off by the tennis(Australian Open). No more of season 1 aired to the best of my knowledge, and i was bitterly dissapointed that the show wasnt restored after the tennis had finished.
A year later, i had arrived home from school early, and to my surprise discovred season 2 was screening at 3pm weekdays! Unfortunetly, the season was half way through, and i was only able to see a couple of episodes(I didnt think to tape the program), before the season ended and American Dreams dissapered again! Half a year later i heard of the cancellation of the show over the net, and my hopes of seeing anymore of American Dreams faded. Shorely the media network would not air this program again, and i would never see season 3. But, luckily, I was channel surfing a few weeks back and discovered Season 3 was airing at 10am weekdays, and having finished school and preparing for university, i was able to catch most of Season 3. The last episode aired today, but somehow the reality that American Dreams has gone has not sunk in yet. Maybe it's because i havent seen every episode, or maybe its because an actual ending has not been aired to confirm this. American Dreams has touched many people, and NBC should be ashamed of cancelling such a great program. |

Yes,it was a great show. Probably the best show(IMO) that has aired in a long time and NBC took it off the air. It is a shame.

It is awful that the show was cancelled. I think it's cool that non-Americans like it. People are people, and the emotions experienced by the characters resonate across the world. Maybe if you're lucky Season 1 will be relased on DVD in a region that works with Australian DVD players, if it has not been already.

You're right. NBC is definately being "punished" for the great shows, including AD, that they cancelled. Last week, they only had 3, yes 3, shows in top 20 for ratings, (SVU, CI, and ER), while CBS had 11 and ABC 6.

Another Disappointed Aussie
I am so sad & disappointed with learning of the end of AD....I watched the last episode yesterday excited that Meg went with Chris and waiting for the next episode but to find out there is no other episode.
The episode did not give me any closure at all. I have read that there is an alternative ending....has anyone seen it? Will it be shown? I absolutely loved the show...i would never miss it. (When i knew it was on). I am very sad, i cannot believe they can just end a popular show that way. |

Jucy, welcome to the "AD" board! There was talk of the alternate ending airing during the late summer/ early fall here in the states. But, as it is almost winter, I think it's safe to say that it will never air on NBC. However, if the second and third season DVDs were to be released, the alternate ending would probably be on the 3rd one.
