Default JJ and his Friend Wilbur (the deaf man)...questions?

First, i don't recall Wilbur mentioning how he became deaf? Was that mentioned at all? Michael asked how does he know when the alarm goes off? My first question would have been, "How did you lose your hearing?" He wasn't born deaf, because he wouldn't be able to speak in clear tones. He had to have been capable of hearing to know the phonics of the words he was saying.

Also, what was the "word" he signed to Willona when he got mad?
She also did a bad "word" to him. He told her when he taught her that word, he didn't expect her to use it.

Well he could have just gone deaf one day or over time. Foxy Brown (the rapper), she woke up one morning and couldn't hear like 5 months ago. She had some kinda infection in her inner ear, in both ears and she just didn't go get it checked out, until she woke up one morning and couldn't hear anything, And until this day she still can't hear anything. So that could have happened to Wilbur. I have a friend who lost her sight and she's legal blind and that happened over a couple days.

And the whole speaking to Wilona thing, I have no clue, sometimes you just want to know words in another language so you ask the person how you say different things and they'll show you. So I'm guessing that's what Wilbur did.

yeah i know that abt Foxy Brown, but i would think that if they are going to make an episode around the issue of deafness, you would have it said how he became that way. I was thinking of that same infection that Foxy has when this episode came on. I just wondered why it wasn't said how he became deaf. I am trying to think back to when the episode first aired (way back in the dayz LOL) and i think, but not sure, if it was mentioned. It could have been edited out in syndication.

I don't know, maybe because Wilona didn't dwell on his deafness. I know me personally wouldn't ask anyone how they became deaf, if they wanted me to know then they would tell me.

someone being deaf is no big thing, but since the character brought it up himself in front of several people, then, it only makes sense for the writers to have him say how he became deaf. This would have been a good opportunity to show how people can lose their hearing, not just be born deaf. Since the writers had Michael ask the question abt the alarm clock, then it only seems logical that he would have asked (being that he is a child and it's only a child being curious, which is why Flo made a gesture to him when he asked the alarm question) the question of how he became deaf. When i met my first husband, i noticed he turned his head to the right when I talked to him. I didn't ask anything. But when he brought this up abt his deafness, it was then i asked how he became deaf. It's just a natural curiosity when you are becoming associated with someone. The Wilbur character didn't mind the questions. he felt that the more people know, the less they are to judge and assume things.
