yeah the Evans were the only ones in the neighborhood not to do drugs. It seemeed like there were many whinos there too

Yes, James sure was a strong man who didn't fall prey to addiction. Other than the occasional beer (or Musketal!

) to wind down after a hard day's work, he was sober all the time. Keith sure could've learned a few things from his father-in-law had he ever known him.

Did you ever notice that the Evans family had all these relatives who were criminals, alcoholics, gamblers, etc.?

I think the only normal ones were Grandpa Evans and Florida's brother (the one played by Lou Gossett, and I don't remember his character's name).

Well JJ had some of that in him. His "finding things" and "hustling" does bend the rules a little.
I guess that "dishonest" gene skipped Michael and Thelma completely.

I just didn't understand a article a read in the 1976 jet yesterday that stated JAMES was the only strong Black father on TV at that time which I feel was false because George Jefferson was a strong father figure also.

Maybe when the interview took place for the article, George Jefferson wasn't that visible yet.

The issue of that Jet was 7/22/76. At the time the Jeffersons was going into their 3rd season so he was defintely VISIBLE-lol

For some reason and maybe because Lionel didn't live at home much when The Jeffersons were on most people probably didn't consider George a TV Father.

I agree. Lionel was a grown man and doing his own thing, and the Evans kids (at the outset) were still in school and living by their parents' rules.

Yes Lionel was out of his parents home but lived with him them for 5 years. George was a smart business man, loved his family, never cheated on his wife, and like James was ready to PROTECT his family if he had to so there is no way someone can tell me George wasn't a strong father image on TV
