Default For your family and kids safety please read...

There are some car stickers that are very popular. I see them everywhere I go. I never thought anything negative abt them until something I read in a magazine made me think twice abt them. If you notice people will have each family members' names put underneath the stick figure. Even adding a pet to the sticker family. Well, it seems that a sicko had noticed the names on a particular SUV and followed the car to a school. He seen a little girl get off the SUV. Later afterschool he watched to see if she was picked up or not. She wasn't. She was walking home, he then approached her and mentioned her brother "Timmy" was taken to the hospital and her mother told this man who is a "friend" to pick up little "Sara" and take her to the hospital. Well, of course all of this was a lie. He molested her and dropped her off. (Thank God he didn't kill her) So, with this little cute car sticker that is so popular, he knew the entire family's name, and it was easy with the names (even if there weren't names) he could easily see that the family consisted of a mom, dad, two brothers and a little daughter, a cat and a dog. And they each had their names underneath. Now, in this day and age, what kind of people would give out such personal information like that for the whole world to see? I have seen cars with family last names engraved on the license plates, stickers with family names, last names, etc. We cannot give the bad people any private info that they may be able to use to commit a crime of any kind.

I can't tell you how many phone numbers and social security numbers I overheard yesterday at the social security office. I was there tending to some business and as I sat there, I clearly heard so many people telling the clerks their phone numbers and social security numbers in a voice that I could easily hear. When it was my turn to go to the clerk, I handed her my social security card and wrote my phone number down so no one but her could know that info. I just want to pass this info on to everyone.

If anyone has any other ideas, info, etc. they think we should pass on, please post it. We can never have enough info that we could use to be careful/

Thanks for the info. In this day in age, you can't be too careful. It also bothers me to see children wearing jackets or backpacks with their names on them. If your child must have his or her name on a personal item, put it INSIDE where no perverts can see it. Also, a child should NEVER go off with someone they don't know, even if that person claims to know their parents.

Back when I worked at the store, I never let any customer tell me their phone number or SSN. I always had them write it down. I also asked for ID all the time when the customer payed with a check or credit card. More than a few customers grumbled, but I told them I just wanted to keep their info safe.

You are welcome. I just feel that we can use this forum to help and give advice. Who would have thought abt those silly stickers causing such grief?

You are a smart cashier. Alot of customers gripe abt that, but they should be grateful instead of bitching!!! My God, when something bad happens, then they wish someone had been more careful....DUH

You are so right abt the childrens' names thing too. Never allow your childrens' name to be seen for the whole world!!! How idiotic is that?

You know, I have a three year old who thinks he can just run around anywhere he wants. Well, against my wishes, I had to buy those harnesses. I hate them because it reminds me of a dog leash, but Bless the person who thought of this device. I can't tell you how many times that thing has come in handy. and I don't give a damn what people think. At least I know my child is with me, and not running around loose like so many children I have seen. If I was a predator, I wouldn't have a hard time taking a child, I have seen so many little tikes by themselves and even a few who have come to me and just started talking to me.
